Advice on Kennels (other than Disney's)

We are considering taking our 20lb. cocker spaniel to Florida with us (family is reluctant to be 1000mi away from her), and I was hoping someone with experience using local kennels had any recommendations for good kennels.

We're willing to pay $$$ for over-the-top cleanliness, safety and extra attention, but also don't want to be obliged to walk her twice a day like the Disney kennels require. We hope to make daily or "every other day" visits, but don't want to burden the vacation with making it a twice-a-day requirement.

Any insights, thoughts, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As we have 2 canine children, I understand your desire to bring your Cocker and also to find a superior kennel.

I am not able to personally vouch for any in the Orlando area, however, I am attaching a link to the American Boarding Kennel Assoc. which certifies kennels around the county. Our kennel in Manchester, NH is a member, and I have spoken to the owner about this association, and she says that this organization is top-notch, and has real standards for its members.

I am particularly intrigued by the one called Miss Emily's Bed & Biscuit! Whether or not the kennel is any good, Miss Emily gets my vote for creative branding!

I'm not sure where I read it, but I think you can pay extra (something like $2.50 a walk) and Disney will walk your dog for you. Maybe someone else will know?

I can't understand why Disney doesn't offer better service in this area. They have everything so fully covered but I feel like they are lacking here. I would love to take my dogs - we usually do on vacations - and I would pay top dollar to have a Disney-based kennel for them. I keep reading that more and more people are taking their furry family members with them so I hope Disney will recognize this missed opportunity and build a "deluxe" resort for pets!!!

Thanks for posting that link to the boarding and kennel assoc. I have been debating which kennel to leave our puppy at while we go to Disney. That web site just helped me make up my mind! He will only be 10 months old when we go to Disney, he is a yello lab, so he is big, but he is still our baby! Thanks again, I am so nervous about leaving our puppy here while we go to Disney. That small bit of info makes me feel a little better.

This is why the hotels are Universal are great - you can take your dog! Loews has a Loews loves pets policy, and they will definitely take care of the canine child for you if you want. One lonely pup was taken from his room and "worked" the front desk.

Seriously, Disney ought to have better kennels than they do. Our baby usually stays with relatives but it would be great to have her on Disney property with us.
