Hi,

I need some help on what to do. I will try and make this as short as I can.
I have been working for a really good company for 2 1/2 years now. About 2 months ago the company decided that they wanted to sell, so they started entertaining bids from other companies. The management thought that we would get something good, so they sent out an email about severances and what each employee was intitled to if something were to happen. My DH was layed off for about 8-9 months and we decided that we didn't want to go through that again, so I started looking for a new job. Finally I got an offer that I feel is a great opportunity, more money etc. So I accepted the offer. Yesterday management told the us that the company is no longer selling, but they are going to reorganize the company. They said that all the bids that came in were too low. My company has a trading department that is considered a liabilty and most of the companies that were bidding on us didn't want the whole company.....specially the trading portion. So my company is going to get rid of the trading department and try to continue to grow and be successful. To me it sounds as if the company is going to get rid of the trading department and then put us up for sale again. Maybe I am wrong.
I was approached by my manager yesterday and she wants to know if I would be willing to stay. There are other issues that have me concernced. I manage a team of two that do no respect me as a supervisor. This is because some of the other supervisors in the department allow my team members to do things when I have told them no. It is really a hard department to run. I have also had a run in with another supervisor's team member and she is the main problem. The other supervisor won't take action because they are friends (She is one of those that will treat you terrible if she does not like you and she can influence others to do the same)They talk bad behind my back and one really wants me to leave because she wants my job.

So, do I take the new opportunity and move on, or do I stay?

What would some of you do?

Thanks!

j

Not that money is the most important thing, but is the salary the same? That might be a big part of my decision. Is it a supervisory role like you are in now? If not, will you be able to adapt to being a subordinate worker? Seems like you are unhappy where you are.....sometimes that alone can make you want to leave - no matter what the money or position is that you currently have or would be moving into. This sounds like it could turn around and bite you in the butt if you stay. If the opportunity to leave is a good and secure job, I would be outta there..........

I would leave too. I've been through the layoff mess in the past and even if your company doesn't go through with it right now, it sounds like it may come up in the future. And it may also be harder to find that nice job when it does.

I'm with everyone else, RUN, RUN FAST, RUN HARD!!! It sounds to me like you'll wind up with the nightmare you are trying to avoid, being jobless. That's if you don't quit in disgust over the other issues. Stick with your first instinct, it's usually right.

I think you answered your own question.

Yup, we support your decision to go.

Take the new opportunity! Your present company doesn't sound too stable, since they keep flip-flopping on selling out.

From past experience, staying around in that type of environment is not good on the emotions, etc. I'd leave.

Yep, go.

When things fall into place as they have for this new job, I believe that is the path you are being guided to. Go start fresh and make a new life with a new company.

Do you really want to work in an atmosphere like that? Every time you leave the room - people are talking about you! Its hard to perform at your best if you do not feel completely comfortable around those you work with. Start over with this new company and you might get the respect you are not getting in the old.

Dont be afraid of change! Change is a great way to make something good happen!

Take the new job. Start fresh somewhere else.

I would leave and take the new job, if you have doubts, then something is wrong, go with your gut.... it will never steer you wrong. Oh I have been in this position and I actually took a paycut for lesss stress and more opportunity. Go with your gut. :)

Thanks everyone for your responses. I thought I had my mind made up on leaving then the old company hit me with they would pay me more money. But that still does not take care of the employee problem.

I am leaning more towards leaving......

Thanks again everyone :)
