BUT, can you waxing advocates answer a few questions for me??
1. Do you always go to a salon - or can you get as good results with an at home kit?
I always go to a salon, and what's more, Im fussy about the wax, having had it done for the last 5-8 years before vacations. The best wax I've found used at the salons is the kind that doesn't need cotton strips to take the wax off. The person applies it with one edge that's thick, and then after it hardens a bit, pulls it off using that edge as a handle. MUCH better job, much smoother legs, though you do want to find someone that's an expert in waxing (I asked when I called, who's your best waxer).
I can't use the at home kits - too painful for me to do it to myself, and you just can't see all of your legs to get the wax going in the right direction (must be applied with the growth of the hair, and pulled off against the growth).
I DO use an epilator to maintain my wax - the hair grows back a little bit at a time, and while I can't do my own legs at full hair, just doing the regrowth I can do with out too much pain.

2. Whats the cost at a salon - approx.?? I'd love to try it but have no idea the basic cost (so dont know if its feasible....)
I pay between $70 and $80 depending if I have the bikini area done, but that price will vary dramatically depending on where you live, so check at the different salons. It's worth paying more to have the good wax I described above, and also worth paying more to have a good/expert waxer.

3. When you go to have it done dont you have to have kind of long hair...so about how long is long enough (2 or 3 days worth?)
You DO need to have long hair on your legs - at least 1/4" long, I think they say, but maybe it's 1/2"; ask at the salon what they recommend, but keep in mind the longer the better! I will admit, when I usually go (in winter time), Ive not touched my legs for several weeks before going. My DH hates it when I shave (too prickly and stubbly), and prefers the hair (even if it's long) to the stubble from shaving.
I always schedule the wax to occur about a week before I leave for the trip - you will get some bumps and redness, which can last for several days, esp. if you've never had it done before, so this give my legs a chance to recover and look nice after the waxing.
Hope this helps - give waxing a try!
