I booked a 2 bedroom a AKV for the week of 1/21 right at the 7 month window. Disney just called me and had informed me that they could not honor my ressie, and in return for us staying at SSR during that time, they would give our party free park passes or the dining plan for our Troubles. has anyone else had this experience? What should I do?:confused3

SSR is fine---AKL is great, but there is a lot of construction. One thing to find out is whether you booked SV or not--b/c SV takes more points. Assuming you did not book SV, it's a great deal. A 7 day ticket is $230+ per person. Dining for 7 days is $39 a day for adults and $12 or so for kids. If you would eat at a lot of restaurants and character meals, then take the free dining.
If you planned to eat in your villa for meals or do counter service and not many character meals, etc., then take the tickets (ask them to throw in Park hoppers, as well). If you booked SV, then it is not quite as good a deal. I might ask for a few more perks--or a reduced number of points charged for your stay.
We stayed at SSR last year and I would trade AKL for 7 days of free dining or free tickets in a heartbeat.

Yes, we did have the savannah view, and they are throwing in park hopper tickets. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

Take the passes and free Dinning. Stay at AKV next year. Think of the money your saving!

The best deal depends on how you'll use it. The free dining may be the best value, esp if you aren't going to the parks every day. Make sure you get the points difference credited back also.

I did not realize it was the free park passes OR free Dinning. I love the DDP, so that's what I would choose. Either way you're still getting a great deal.

kids dining is MUCH less than adults--but kids' ticket prices are almost the same. If you have more kids, I might tend towards tickets. Also, for 2008, appetizers are not included and you have to pay tips--so, if you weren't planning on getting dining plan, you need to add 18% into your calculations that you will be paying out of pocket at each table service meal, even with free dining.
have fun! Elaine

If they are park hoppers and don't expire then I myself would take the tickets and then if you don't go to the parks everyday you can use them next time. SSR is great and I would request the section you would like since they are moving you from a SV room
Congress park --walk to DTD
grandstand--- great pool area for kids
Springs-- close to main pool
don't know much about the other 2 sections
good luck:banana:

Did they give you a reason why they cannot honor your reservation? They are supposed to have all of Jambo House finished by 1/29/08 so I'm wondering if construction is behind schedule.

that is a very generous offer either way you go........ and SSR is a beautiful resort as well. It's a win-win proposition for yas!

That would be great--use 1/2 your days and relax, use the pool, the spa at SSR, DTD the other days---then you would have several free days for your next trip! When we go for a week, we only go into parks 2-3 days anyway and use DVC amenities the other days.

My assumption is that they won't have this options, that the passes would be the expiring kind and that they wouldn't even be allowed to upgrade OOP. That's why I said it depends on how many park days they plan. But of course the decision is truly fact dependent including the makeup of the group (kids vs adults) as pointed out earlier.

Thanks guys for all of the advice!!! There will be no kids going with us on this trip, but, we already have annual passes. We were going to with the park tickets and give the rest of our party free admission along with free (for them) room as well. I am going to ask if we can get the dining for me and my wife and the tickets for the other folks in our group. We originally had a total of 6 going including us , but 3 backed out. Disney told us that they would give the free offer to all in our party, even if we added others later. I tried to do the no-expiriation option, but they could not do it. Oh yeah, we will get the difference of our points refunded back to us. I do not know why Disney could not honor our room at AKV.

My guess is it'll be one or the other, esp if all in the same unit, but it never hurts to ask.

I think you're getting a great deal. Maybe you could be real nice and act pitiful and get them to give you annual passes. so you can have them for your next trip when you DO stay at AKV.

How good are you at being manipulative?
