Advice needed from lovely Birmingham peeps!

It's years since I lived near Birmingham, but as you've not had any better info I'll give you my view. The NEC is near the airport rather than in the city centre, therefore according to the hotel info page the hotel is about 18 km away, if you're driving it shouldn't be too bad but maybe an airport hotel would be more convenient.
I hope someone currently local can give you better information.

Hi Nick!

I lived in Brum for three years but my knowledge is a tad out of date. Here goes anyway!

You would need to get a train back from the NEC (there is a station there) to Birmingham New Street. They always used to run fairly late but I would check to be on the safe side. I certainly got the train back from the NEC to New Street after concerts in the past but this is about nine years ago so best check to be sure.

When back in New Street you could get a bus to the Hagley Road or alternatively a taxi. If the hotel's where I think it is it's about 2/3 miles from the City Centre. If I were you I would go for a more central hotel. There is a Thistle in the City Centre if you wanted a different Thistle?

I can give you some other hotels within walking distance of New Street Station if that would help?

That would be magic if you could!! Any tips for what to do during the day in Brum?

Thanks

Nick, in a word:

shopping!!!!

If shopping's not your bag, there are lots of other things to do. I'll just have to think of what they are ;) as shopping is what I always do in Birmingham!

For hotels, I would recommend:

the Burlington (5 mins walk from New Street Station) I would not pay rack rate for it but you can get it 99% of the time on Laterooms.com for about £80 / room

the Brittania has seen better days but I think most of the rooms are okay, again this one crops up on laterooms often. Even closer to New Street Station than the Burlington, often about £70 / room

the Copthorne probably ten mins walk to NSS, again often on Laterooms (I've seen rooms for £40 here and it is a nice 4 star hotel).

If you find any other deals give me a shout before you book and I'll see if I can remember where they are :teeth:

hi ya! I live and work about 2 miles from the NEC so can give you a bit of advice.

Hotel wise - depending on how much you want to spend there are some very good high end hotels such as Crowne Plaze, Hilton etc at the NEC itself so you could walk back after the concert if you wanted to.

Alternatively there are a few small guest houses on the A45 which do B&B then you could get a taxi for about a fiver to one of these. I can get the phone numbers of them if you would like.

Me, my mom and my friend are going to the Kylie concert on the 17th April, I am looking forward to going and have just got the Ultimate Kylie CD so that I can re learn all the words to the old tunes! :teeth: Might see you there. Let me know if you need the numbers for the guest houses.

That would be magic!! I've checked out the hotels in and around the NEC but they are either too dear or booked up - the B&B's sound good!

Thanks a lot!

Nick
