Advice needed for toddler bed..

My DS is 28 months and over 36 inches so needless to say, our last trip in Feb was a bit uncomfotable for him in the pack-n-play. He is still in a crib at home and is a real mover at night. He usually is sideways with is head against the crib at one point. So, I need suggestions for a travel bed as I don't think he is ready for a standard bed yet with that kind of night movement, and he is too big for the pack-n-play. Any ideas?
We will be in a 1 bedroom at either BLT or BCV next, which both have king beds in the bedroom.

You can request bedrails for the beds - then it would be safer for him to move around.

There are inflatable beds out there for sale, but make sure you check every nook and cranny on the floor, under furniture, etc, as there have been posts about people finding dropped pills, needles (!) and other hazardous stuff that Mousekeepers missed.

in a 1 bedroom villa. just the king bed and a pull out couch. Can you attach rails to the pull out couch? Also, we would prefer he was in the bedroom with us at his age and not alone in the living room.

We rented a crib from a babys best friend last year and it made our life so much easier.My ds-23 months is still in a crib and we will rent again from them this year.We stayed 12 days and it was under 100 dollars for the crib.It was clean and very easy to do.

We used to bring the Aerobed Sleepaway bed - it's a bit smaller than a twin with raised sides. It was wonderful.

I would take a spare sheet, and I'd spread it out under the bed completely (allowing a lot of extra space around the bed) then make the bed up nicely for whomever was using it. The sheet made me feel like the floor was much cleaner underneath.

You can bring your own bedding, or request extra. I loved that bed, and we used it on many trips!

We have the aerobed for toddlers. My 8yo can fit on it and it has raised sides. I found it at Mejers online last year for cheap.

If you put it between the two beds, it does provide an enclosed area.

Try the inflatable toddler bed from One Step Ahead - onestepahead.com. They have some great products. My kids both loved this bed when travelling when they are little - and they were both tall toddlers. I love the fact that it has the built in 'side rails' and that you can tuck in your own toddler sheets too (comes in handy when potty training). It's also less intimidating than a Twin bed (inflatable or regular) or larger. Don't cram your little one into a crib. If you are going to spend $100 for a bed, why not get one you can reuse for other travel?

Most of the Disney property have free 3/4 size crib available for no charge. We got one last time for my DD and my sister has gotten them in the past for her kids. They aren't the prettiest things, but they work. We brought a couple extra sheets so it felt more like home for DD.
They are first come first serve but you can add the request to your reservation.

We had a peapod bed for DS on his first trip to WDW when he was a toddler (we still have the bed and even at a 4ft tall 6yo he fits fine when he and his sister play in it). We liked that it was floor level and didn't have to worry about him rolling off/out -plus it had an inflatable mattress for cushioning and was easy to set up. Also, since we were flying it was easy to pack and take along in the suitcase.

I would request bedrails and just have him sleep in the bed. If not you can get a small inflatable bed.

I think that's where I bought ours, so that's probably the aerobed one.

I still think it was the best purchase! We also used ours for years, as they can comfortably (and safely) sleep a child that's pretty big! My kids even used to argue over who got it!

I think bed rails sound like a good idea. We've used inflateable beds before, and our boy is a crazy sleeper, and ended up making a LOT of noise on his bed, as well as rolling off of it frequently. Poor sleep for all!

As a side note, if your little one is over 36", you should check your crib manual, because if I recall correctly, the experts say that kiddos over 35" should not be in a crib any longer. I could be wrong, though. And I hope I don't get flamed for that - that was just something that came to mind when I read your post.

I have this one as well. My younger DD has been using it while we travel since she turned 2 because she hates pack n plays with a passion! It does make a lot of noise when she moves, but she really doesn't budge once she's asleep. We do get a lot of use out of it even at home. When the girls had the flu and my DH was working (he works nights), DD2 was in bed with me, and DD1 slept on this bed next to my bed. She was close enough to me to feel better, and my bed wasn't too crowded.

We are DVC and stay in a One Bedroom 2-3 times a year. My mom sleeps on the pull out and DH and I sleep in the bedroom on the King. We absolutely do not like having DS in bed with us....just not something we ever do at home and are not comfortable with on vacation (no one gets sleep!).

We take along an Aerobed for him and it works fantastically. We used to have a toddler sized one but that one was incredibly noisy and he rolled off of it a lot. The last several trips we have used the Aerobed Extra Bed (twin size). This one barely makes any noise. I do bring my own fitted sheet for it but use the rest of the bedding/pillows in the DVC unit. We shove it right up against the slider door next to the king bed. We usually put the decorative pillows from the bed inbetween it and the door. I also like this one because it has the pump built right in. It was only $80, packs up fairly small, and really a great investment for us.

I must be the only one with weird kids. My kids used to request the Pack N Play. Here is a picture of DS when he was 3.5 yrs old. Clearly, he was too tall, but he was content to sleep like this and I know how to choose my battles...

My other DS requested the PnP when he was a month shy of his 3rd birthday. Both boys were in beds at home when we went on these trips. Not sure what it is about Pack N Plays, but they loved them.

Thankfully, at 10 & 5, they no longer ask to sleep in the Pack N Play.

The bedrails do not fit on the pull out couches (we've tried!).

I'd agree that your best bet is either getting an aerobed or renting a crib.

SecretPoohLove, sorry I can't PM you back because I am a newbie and don't have enough posts yet. I don't know that my DD or DS noticed any air noises, probably helps that I piled on blankets and a crib/toddler sheet too and pump up any air mattress to be super firm as much as possible.

I will say that DD is a light sleeper and she doesn't seem to notice or complain when we use it on road trips.

I did try a double think twin air mattress (Coleman) for DS when he was 3 and we went tent camping. He would roll right off at least once nightly, which made me feel so bad! This toddler bed from OneStepAhead was the solution and now it's been working great for DD (3) for a couple of years too (hotels, grandparents, camping).

Be forewarned though that at least with my kids, they now treat any air mattress like it's their own personal jumper.

Maybe I just keep putting him in the PNP! I am the one concerned about it, he hasn't complained! But you have given some great options. I am a really light sleeper. I hear Him roll over all of the time when he is in the room with us on vacation in the pNP, so I was worried about adding more noise.
