Advice needed for Sept dates

I'm trying to nail down dates for an upcoming trip. I'm a planner to a fault and am driving my husband crazy with all of it.
Choices are:
Wednesday 9/9 and Thursday 9/10
Shows ghost town on crowd calendar but it looks like Thursday Disneyland closes at 5pm so we lose some time there.

Wednesday 9/23 and Thursday 9/24
Shows Hey its alright on crowd calendar. It is after Dapper Days but the hotel is sold out of standard rooms because they offer the rates through the 25th. I unfortunately didn't get the rates. We are not participating in Dapper Days.

My priority is to be able to check in to the hotel early. We have stayed 4 times in the last year at GC and have always been able to get our room when we get there around 7am. It gives my kids a chance to eat, go potty, and get situated before a day in the park. We have also always been upgraded to a premium view also. Lucky...I know!! I know it will never be guaranteed but I have always gone when the hotel has been slow and have been blessed.
So which days will be better? I like the idea of going later in the month because it will be cooler potentially where it will just be plain hot in early sept! I'm just afraid with the hotel being sold out of standard rooms that they won't be able to get me in early or an upgraded room. Although...I did hear that the Dapper Day rate won't get upgrades and since I paid normal AP rates they might be able to upgrade me.
Thoughts! Thanks for listening...I'm crazy I know

I would vote for 9/23 and 9/24 because by then HalloweenTime will have started. The earlier dates are just before HalloweenTime started (9/11), so it means you'll see the park transitioning to HalloweenTime, but it's unlikely that HM or Space will be open (they both will re-open on the 11th with their seasonal overlays).

In terms of the hotel, I think you have an equal chance, but probably a slightly better chance in the earlier September dates. There is nothing really major happening in the parks at that point (that I know of at least) and it's between "seasons".

It can be just plain hot all through September and into October. A couple of weeks in September won't make much of a difference in hot weather. :goodvibes It's either going to be a super hot September, or not a super hot September, but the difference between temperatures in an earlier September week and a later September week will probably not be that dramatic. The sun is harsh in the summer.

Apparently DL has just posted Pirates of the Caribbean as down for refurb from 14-29 September - if that makes any difference to your date choices.

Thanks you guys!! The ride closures aren't too big of a deal or the Halloween stuff. We have 3 little kids so rides aren't a big deal but crowds kinda are. My husband is leaning towards the beginning of the month but I rather go at the end. I'm just really afraid of the hotel being bust as its sold out of rooms for the dates in late Sept. Even though PP talk of nothing going on then...I've never stayed at the hotel when it's been sold out. My husband thinks it's going to be too busy.

I don't think the GCH is completely booked (i.e., all rooms are reserved) for the late September dates. I did a quick check and Deluxe Partial View, DTD view, and Premium view all still had room available for the late September time period, only Woodland and Standard View were sold out. It's also possible that travel agencies, group events, etc. have large blocks of rooms reserved that may become available later if they don't need them. HalloweenTime is popular, so I would think that late September is going to be busier than early September, but I don't necessarily think that it's going to be super busy at the end of September.
