Advice needed for one day at Disneyland

So my fiance and I are heading to Hawaii on our honeymoon in October from the east coast.

We decided to extend our layover in LA and spend the first day of our trip at Disneyland - we arrive late Sunday night, will have all day Monday to spend at the parks, and we're leaving for Oahu Tuesday early afternoon. We love WDW and have been a few times together. This will be his first time, and my second time at Disneyland.

I know that we wont be able to do EVERYTHING and our main priority is to hit up Cars-land in the morning (since that is the major difference between DL and WDW). Afterwards we has planned on hopping over to Disneyland and hitting some rides there and then heading back to DCA in the afternoon for dinner/nighttime shows.

My concern now is that there is a MNSSHP scheduled that night. Is DCA going to be insanely crowded with people who got kicked out of DL? Should we spend the extra cash and get party tickets so that we can stay in DL later and possibly ride more things when the crowds are light? We can easily spend 12 hours in a park (we've done it before, many times) and we have no issue running back and forth for Fastpasses. Basically, how should we make the best use of our time?

Thanks so much for any advice!

First off, congrats! What a great honeymoon. What Monday will you be there? I think it will make a difference in the responses you get as far as crowds go. I've been to 2 MHP and have our 3rd booked. One year we planned the MHP but it sold out before I bought tickets so we went to DCA that evening and it was crazy busy. We ended up spending a lot of our time in Bugs Land because we had young kids but that wouldn't be much fun for newlyweds :) If the cost of the MHP isn't an issue for you then I would definitely do DCA in the morning and early afternoon then head over to the party at 3ish. It's so fun and I think something everyone should try at least once.

Thanks so much! I am certainly looking forward to it. We're planning on being there Monday October 20th.

I also should have mentioned that we really want to see World of Color (since it is very different from the nighttime shows at WDW).

I am trying to figure out a way to "do it all" and we don't really have an issue spending the money, just trying to decide if its necessary/worth it.

If we just get tickets to DCA and then a MHP ticket, can I hop back to DCA in the evening to see World of Color? Or should I get a 2 park ticket AND a MHP ticket?

And I realized my mistake in calling it MNSSHP, whoops!

So my opinion on WOC is not great. I've given it a try twice and haven't had any luck. They use to offer a picnic pack that included a FP that I purchased well in advance so I would be all set to see the show. Even having a FP we waited in line to get to the viewing area then had to stand/sit around there positioning for a spot, then close to start time everyone has to stand up leaving much taller people standing in front leaving no view of what is happening other than the part of the show that is higher up. That being said I know people love it and rave about it and also have tips on getting good spots for viewing. I just prefer to spend that 2 plus hours doing other things.

You can get a ticket for just DCA, get your hand stamped when you leave there so you can return later on. Then just get your MHP ticket (if you decide to go).

I guess it just comes down to the things you absolutely don't want to miss out on and go from there. As for the MHP it is great for seeing the villains that usually aren't out, trick or treating was super fun (even for adults), the atmosphere has a great halloween magical feel, about 50% of people are in costume so it's great to people watch while in ride lines, and the fireworks show is amazing.
