For all you out there that book through AAA for your DW trips , do you let AAA book your plane tickets or do you do it yourself. Also do you fine that booking them through one of those "cheap" websites work? We have only been there once and our plane was booked for us. We are newbie and could really use some advice.

I've never had any luck with airfare through AAA. I have always been able to get a cheaper fare going directly through the airline website. I always check the travel sites like expedia, travelocity and others first to compare fares among airlines.

I have booked airfare once with AAA and they are not looking for the best deals. I LOVE my agent and book package through him but not airfare-I can do so much better on my own. :goodvibes

I have to agree. I've had the worst luck when using a TA to book my airfare as a part of any package. I once had to fly a 2-prop plane out of Philly to Dulles (in D.C.) so that I could catch a flight to Orlando. With so many direct flights to MCO from PHL and numerous other jets to major hubs in the south, this was just unbelievable and it was the last time I booked air thru a TA.

I have had no luck with AAA either. There was only a minimal price difference and I have found that I like to be in control of my own reservations.

However, it seems to me from reading the posts that some agents are better than others.

My advice is to try to go during value season if you can and check here and/or allearsnet and mousesavers for discounts.

Have a great time planning:banana:

thanks for all the advice. I am just going to book my airfare on my own and do the other with my TA.

Ask your TA to send you some quotes... it never hurts to see what they come up with. I found my best prices through JetBlue and Southwest. Good luck!

My TA was looking for airfare for me. When I called her and told her I found $199 r/t, she said Really? Needless to say, I booked my own.

We used AAA for our trips to DW and we always booked our airfare separately. We were able to find better deals than what were offered to us by AAA.

We have used AAA twice now to book our disney package. It worked great to book the free dining . . I didn't have to wait on hold. Our agent is great. :thumbsup2

She pretty much told us though that we could probably find airfare just as cheap as she could. :confused3 So we have always booked our own airfair.

I booked our Airfair through AAA web site and it was cheaper than the airlines site and better price/times times than travelocity or orbitz. You may want to check it out yourself.

We booked through AAA last year and were given flights on AirTran. Unfortunately we could not use the 24 hour advance on line check in because we were given paper tickets. We had to check in at the airport and ended up with terrible seats. I booked our flights on line myself this year!

Remeber that IF you TA books your airfare, the airline will not deal with you directly. So when they change the flight etc. your TA needs to get involved. (Based on the AAA "reviews" I see on here, that would make me nervous)
This is also the reason I don't recommend using one of the online TAs unless it's the VERY best deal. Generally you can get the exact same fare on the airline website and you then control the reservation if changes need to be made (Good luck finding a live human at Orbitz or Expedia if there's a major storm for example!)

Even if I could book my airfare through a TA (AAA or otherwise), I would not, nor would I recommend anyone doing so. Airline schedules are subject to all sorts of conditions. By using a TA, you are taking away your ability to make changes yourself that may become necessary during the course of your planning or trip.

Also, as most have noted, you can usually find the best deal yourself. Make sure you read the terms and conditions under which you are purchasing your airfare, as well. Each airline has a different policy regarding refunds and credits.

Good luck!
