Hi from the UK.

We're hoping to come over to the US for some skiing next Xmas time, but want to have a two centre stay, ie Lake Tahoe/Mammoth for a week then down to San Fransisco or LA/Disney California. Another alternative is ski in New England with a week in Boston, or ski in Colorado then transfer to Las Vegas. (One of our travel companies even has a snow and beach twin centre - one week skiing in Whistler then travel down to Hawaii!! - sounds like paradise holiday :) ).

Only know Florida temps, so we would be ever so grateful if someone could advise what December/January temps would likely be for the following areas, and what sort of clothes we would need for the non-skiing weeks:

Los Angeles (Disney California and any other places you could recommend for our week here)
Boston
Las Vegas (is a week too much here, or are there are places of interest to visit from this base?)
San Fransisco

Thanks for much for your help and advice.

San Fran is usually a little on the cool side, imo. In december jeans and long sleeved shirts would work for that city.

Boston is likely to be very cold.

jipsy gave you an excellent link, you can look up any city on that site and get the next 10 days weather.

There's a link to the averages year round for San Fran HERE

My opinion on San Fran is chilly...anytime. We went in April one year and I was wearing my winter coat.
Have fun planning!

Hi Annie,

Temps here in New England cover a wide range in the winter. In Boston, high temps average in the upper-30's to mid-40's farenheit which is close to what your used to in England. Low temps average in the 20's farenheit. However, you may have days where highs can be only in the 20's or days in which temps get into the 50's.

In the mountains of New Hampshire, Maine or Vermont temps are more stable with highs in the 20's - 30's and lows generally in the teens.

If you do decide to head to our area let me know specifics of where you may ski, etc. We'd be glad to help in your planning!

Gail

p.s. any word from the UK about the next Harry Potter book?????
