Advice for getting best price on Sirius

Does anyone have advice on getting a really good price on Sirius. We have Sirius radios in both our cars, and it is useful because it provides traffic info for our nav systems. One of the free trial subscriptions just expired, and the other will expire in April. What's the best way to get the best prices on Sirius, and is there any advantage to try to use the two subscriptions together to get a better price overall? We're willing to live without Sirius for a few months on the one car if that will help.

I can't help with the two cars, but I simply tell them that its not worth that much money to me. They will typically go through several offers and I just keep refusing until I get it down to about half price... I think I usually pay $60-70ish for the year. The last time I got $25/6 months. I'm very nice but I'm genuine in that I will not pay the full subscription price, I will cancel if they can't do better. It's always worked for me. Oh, and make sure they don't set you up for automatic renewal bc the next year will be full price. Good luck!

I just tried to renew my contract after doing so for 6 years at about half off. No go. They wanted to charge me ~$175.00 a year. I said NO THANK YOU! I'm not paying that type of money to listen to commercials! It used to be that there were no commercials, thus paying the fee, but it seems like most of the channels I listen to have annoying commercials. I said if they couldn't do the same price I paid last year that to cancel my subscription, and that's what they did. My last day for the service is tomorrow. I will miss it, but I'm not paying what they want for it.

No. My husband works for ford and we struggle with them every month. The best thing I'd say has worked is saying you are going to cancel unless there is a better offer.

Yeah, the only time we have gotten a "deal" is when we called to cancel and they offered us a discounted rate. They did this 3 years in a row!

When I bought my car in 2010, the salesman told me to wait and not renew immediately. Sirius would offer a discounted plan in a few months. As I recall-I've received several offers from them to renew (I let it lapse) and it really got more reasonable as time went on. I'm still too cheap to pay for it!

We did this unintentionally. DH decided it was just too much to pay for his hunting truck and let it lapse. Then when the bill came due for my car, I was ready to let it lapse. (I mostly listen to NPR and, yes, I am a member.) They called and he explained why we weren't interested. They offered him half off. It was worth it to us for that.

Just make sure they don't have your charge card in their system or they will automatically charge you $200 for 6 months!

I had this happen (and my check card was in their system) while I was on vacation.

I just tried to renew last weekend and they did not offer me anything. I was transferred to another dept and was not offered anything but the 14.99 a month fee. I will retry this week if I don't get a better offer I will cancel also. I had the $20/ 6 months prior to this but 14.00/month is not worth it too me.

If I remember correctly, when DH called to cancel, he got someone who definitely did NOT speak American English, although he tried to hide it - just didn't know our accent well enough and kept lapsing into what DH thinks was Indian English. Anyway, the guy was a bit rude and ticked DH off. DH said he was definitely cancelling now!

We got a call back from someone with a western American accent (DH asked the guy and confirmed he was from somewhere out west - I forget the city, but the northwest, I think.) who offered us 50% off as soon as DH explained our reasoning for cancelling.

So I'd just wait and call back. It may well depend on who you get.

They've never offered me anything over the phone. I always all to cancel before my renewal date and they try to sell me a full priced package. I always ask for a deal and they always say they can't do it. So I tell them to cancel. A few days or weeks later the phone calls and mail flyers start to come. I wait till the price is reasonable then I'll call.

I called to cancel after paying full price for a year because I didn't realize they ever offered lower prices.

You have to be insistent you want to cancel to get them to keep offering. First I declined everything as we were buying a new home and I wanted to cut out some expenses. I was given 3 free months to "think about it", so I said OK. I got a bill after 2 months and I called to ask why, and they gave me another 3 months to "apologize". When that was up I called again and had to decline 2 other "offers" before they threw 50% off for a year at me. That I accepted, because I figured in my case it was really 18 months for the price of 6. That will be up in July and I'm willing to shut it off if they don't meet or beat that offer again. I love my radio, but honestly I have an 8 minute drive to work and it's a luxury I really could survive without.

This happened to me. I got a vm saying their system had automatically renewed and I was accruing a balance. When I called, I kept saying their offers were too high. I finally said I would renew at 6 months for 25 and then they slapped a $10 charge for the week at full rate which I refused to pay since I never authorized the renewal. They took the 10 off but I couldn't get them to rescind the automatic renewal in 6 months or to provide me with notification that the renewal date was coming up. They only send out a renewal bill after their "system" automatically renews. At least this is what I was told. B/c I never give a credit card, I feel I'm protected from their "auto renewal" charges.

When my intial free trial ended during 2011, I told them when they called that I would not renew at full price and wanted the $77 per year rate I had heard others received. That rep said no, so I cancelled. Three weeks later, I got the $77 rate in a mail offer.

When that full year was up last month, I simply called, asked to cancel, and was transferred to the department that can negotiate. I explained to the new rep that I don't listen enough to make full price worth while and would only renew at the old rate. I think she offered me something like $84 for the year, which I agreed to.

I also checked out bundling my DH's car and mine, but the discount isn't as good as keeping them apart and asking for the deals.

I had a 3 month trial and I called twice and could only get it to $11 a month, and that was just music channels. So I decided to let it go. I got a letter in the mail for $86, and it said I get 6 months free and no activation fee. The price came to $99 because of a Franchise fee and taxes. I gave them my Disney Chase VISA with a expiring date for next Sept. So they do not renew on me.

So OP, do not renew and you should get a letter soon.

I also let ours lapse. We were offered 5 months for $25 and I took the deal. I just need to remember to call back at the end of the 5 months to "cancel" again.
