Hubby and I and two kids are headed back to Disney in February. We have been to Disney many times but never to Universal. My son is 8 will be 9 at the time of the trip so I was thinking this would be a good time to take him. Just trying to figure out how to make it work since most likely we will stay at one of the Disney resorts for the trip. Not sure I really want to change hotels part way through. We normally in the past have gotten a rental car so we will probably get one again otherwise we will have to do a taxi. I also have a daughter who will be 6 and is still on the smaller size so not sure if she will be able to go on much.

Any advice from people that have done both Disney and Universal would be great. Right now looking at it Universal Studios would be the ideal park and probably has the most that the kids would like. I'm thinking of just doing one day since I don't want to have this trip be crazy amount of money.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

We've done both many times and I agree that the Studios is likely the best overall for your group. That is not to say that there isn't a lot in IOA (the Doctor Seuss stuff is amazing) but you'd see more characters and so on at the other park. You could do the one day park to park but you could only hit the highlights at each and it's pretty tiring even though they are so close together. And I agree, it gets expensive!

I would simply get to the park of choice very early. You don't need dining reservations but you could eat at one of the restaurants in Citywalk very easily. We enjoy the break away from the parks. Check out the dining sticky above, it's really nicely done.

I hope that you have fun. :)

We are doing both in a few weeks. We are doing 5 days Universal and 5 days Disney. Since we are staying at CB we get early entry to Harry potter so we are going to take advantage of that then we will go wherever the day takes us. I try not to have to many plans i feel like I am tied down when I have alot of plans so we just go with the flow eat when hungry etc..

Depends on what your son likes, but I think he'll like Universal more than Disney... maybe... but your daughter might not. How many days are you staying at Disney? Is your son a fan of Spiderman? Harry Potter? If so, you MIGHT think of IOA... you might think of two days as well and cut down on Disney depending on how many days you already have there. Don't try to cram TOO much in though. I've made that mistake before. You may just want to make Universal a different vacation some day....
