Category 9 and Category 10 staterooms appear to be identical except for the window. Does the window make a big difference in enjoying the cruise, or do you spend so little time in your stateroom other than sleeping that the window is not a big issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

We went cat 10 instead of cat 9 because it meant the difference of borrowing a few points or rolling a few points over to next year.
The room I had on NCL in Dec didnt have a window. The room was much smaller and there was no split bath. I did go with the cat 10 this time because of the split bath.
I spent so much time up on the pool and sun decks. I enjoy people watching.

We chose a cat 8 on our last cruise (because the thought of being on deck 1 or 2 freaks me out, cat 8 is essentially the same as cat 9 but on the higher decks) and although the porthole was nice, I don't think it was worth the extra charge. We had already been holding a verandah room for our next cruise in Jan 2003, but when we got home, based on our experience on our last cruise, we downgraded to a cat 10 and saved $800 on the reservation. We did check out a cat 11 room just to see but we decided that the split bath would be worth the extra money over a cat 11, but honestly we'd rather have the extra $$ for a window/verandah to spend on other things on the ship. We were never in the room and certainly not during the day when it was light enough outside to actually see anything (except for a few minutes to change clothes).

Personally, if I were going for a window, then I would splurge a little more and go for the verandah. If I were to go the way of saving on the cost, then I would do a category 10 or 11. Some people do choose an inside cabin near aft deck 7 as there is a small public verandah close by which can be utilized, too. :)

I was also very nervous about being on Deck 1 after being on Deck 8 four times. I was actually very happy on deck 1. We had a mid-ship location 1042 and were not far from the elevators. When we came and went from shore excursions it was a breeze!!!! No waiting for elevators upon returning. I actually lost 5 lbs. on the 7 day cruise.....we used the stairs alot!!! For shore excursions we just walked down the hall and out the door!!! The two portholes were small but not as small as I thought. It was fun people watching out them because you are level with the people walking past the ship on the dock. Just remember to pull the blinds while changing!!!!

I would definitely do a Cat 9 on deck 1 again. I loved my veranda in Cat 4 but didn't miss it as much as I thought.
