We will be staying at OKW for the first time at the end of the month.
I requested non smoking , but am worried that i don't know the resort. if i get some type of room choice at check in i can't make an informed decision.
are there "good" buildings versus "bad" buildings? we are a party of two adults. thanks for the advice.

I don't think there are any good or bad buildings at OKW, it really depends upon your personal preferences. Some views are better than others, but really most views at OKW are pretty good. View choices are woods, golf and water. All have advantages and disadvantages. Studios have poorer views than larger units, as they are located at the ends of the buildings and their balconies are to the side.

Your main concerns would be location...do you want to be close to the main pool and restaurant? If so, then request that. The other three "quiet pools" at OKW are also very nice, they don't have a slide, if that is important to you. Personally, we prefer the Old Turtle Pond area. Since you are two adults, this probably won't make any difference to you, but there was a design change during OKW construction in 1 bedroom and larger units. Bldgs 30 and higher have a seperate entrance to the master bath. Bldgs 29 and lower must enter the bath through the master bedroom. Studios are the same design throughout the resort.

Even if you do "get stuck" on the far end of the resort from the restaurant and front dsk, and bus will stop there on their way out of the complex. And there is an internal bus that can take you back, or you can cross the bridge and take any bus from the Peninsular Road bus stop back to your room, as that is the first stop coming into the resort.

Will you have a car? If so, you won't have to worry about being close to a bus stop. Since you're two adults, maybe you'll be spending more time in your room, so the view is more important. We like buildings 11, 12 and 13 for their privacy but with Old Key West it's really hard to go wrong. You don't mention room size but do a one bedroom if at all possible. Enjoy your stay. Eat at Olivia's a lot!!
