Since the deadline for registering teams is coming up, and that MANY teams
were disqualified last time for the Everest event, I thought I'd give out
some advice to prevent that from happening this time.

1. Read the registration rules carefully, and follow them to the letter.
This goes without saying, but I'm saying it anyway. Don't be hasty!
Make sure you understand what you need to do before you register!

2. Each team should have assigned a team leader, in this case, a Lifeguard.
The Lifeguard is responsible for registering the team on time and correctly,
or their entire team cannot compete.

3. The Lifeguard should provide VMK this info:
a. Team Name (like Jellyrolls' team: Team Boogies)
b. Names of all members on the team. Be sure to spell them correctly!
c. Room titles of EVERY member's room. This includes the START
room, which MUST have the title Shallow End in it, and should belong
to the Lifeguard. (So if Jellyrolls submits hers, it might say,
Shallow End - Team Boogies.)
d. NO. DICTIONARY DANCING FOR ANY ROOM TITLES. Instant disqualification.

If the team leaders can get all the info ahead of time, then the members
have until the day of the competition to build their rooms.

VMK has sent team leaders confirmation that their teams were qualified for
Everest, so it works in your favor if you register before the deadline.
That way, if you don't receive confirmation, you can ask if they have
received your entry.

I hope this helps some new teams and the teams that missed out on
Everest due to some overlooked mistakes.

Thanks, Lori! Some excellent advice there! Be sure to double check EVERYTHING!!! Good luck, everyone!

I am having a total brain freeze (must be that awesome root beer float I had!) but I can't remember if, when we register, we have to match up room names with each member, or just have a list of both separately? Or if we have to register the exact order in which our rooms will appear?

Great tips though, Briar :)

Fox,

I think just to be safe it would be best to provide your list in the order the rooms are in with the title and the owner of the room. Since VMK Staff will be riding through the rooms - it will help them verify the original entry against the team members as well as the the names of the room.

Thanks for the tips Briar and good luck everyone.

thanks for the tips :)

better pass them on to my Lifeguard especially the no dictionary dancing because VMK doesn't allow most of the movie titles... so mine can't be family rob.in.suns but family treehouse...

I'm going to charge you a fee for using me as an example. ;)

Good reminder.

Could someone please explain what dictionary dancing is?

dictionary dancing is when you use one word or more in VMK to sound like a word you can't say in VMK so too is two, "super tall i fridge a missed it lets be all i do less" is how i say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious in VMK, erm... we was used to say whee but they brought that word back, and so on...

Great advice- glad you thought about posting this. I would hate to see people miss out for the simple mistakes from last time.

Also for team members- the time is today if you decide you want to pull out of the competition- please don't wait until after the entry is submitted- make a firm decision today to stick it out and create your rooms. I recall that being a problem from last time too- the team leader submitting rooms and people backing out.

Oh and the other big thing- you can only be on one team- and your assignment counts for whichever team submits your name first. So make sure you aren't on more than one team at least not as the same character and make sure your team leader has your correct name- sometimes you may be doing discussion as your main but using a room of a mule- the mule needs to be the one registered.

Arg. I'm so stressed. My team leader gave me two days to get the team together. He said he can't be team leader so I had to take over. I don't know if I can get the room title of every room. I'm still getting people together.
Its just very frustrating and I don't want to end up disappointing anyone.

Thank you for the tips and explanation. I was also wondering if you think vmk will give more specific rules and where will i find registration on monday? I also wanted to make sure that rooms do not have to already be created at time of registration - we just have to know what we have to name the rooms - is that correct? Thanks for the help!

You don't have to have the room ready. You just have to know the room title. To register I'm sure it will be under contact us.

:thanks: Thanks for the help! You all are great! :disrocks: :beach: Good luck to everyone in the competition! :beach:

Last time it was under the "contact us" with a selection for entry.

We won't get any more detailed directions then the ones already posted. Which is why BriarLori posted her suggestions- last time many people were disqualified because of small errors. And I recall someone saying they didn't turn in all the names of the rooms last year- assuming they could add or change them later and they were unable to.

Team leader should also double check the name length and make sure that the names will be accepted- this can be done by going into any one of your own rooms and changing the room title - I'd suggest too that if any name you give doesn't work- that you alter it slightly and then notify that team member of how it was changed

And the rooms only need to be ready before the judging- so plenty of time to finish up if the names are done.

Many people are worried about not being able to register their teams and getting really angry that they might be the 201 team. Well let me explain a little something about this. In one team their can be 20 members . 20 people times 10 teams equals 200 people. That means 200 people for ten teams. then 200 people times 10 more teams equals 2,000 people. That means 2,000 people for 100 teams. Then times 2,000 by two and you get 4,000 people. So for 200 teams that means 4,000 people can enter so theirs no way you won't be accepted unless you don't have the registration complete. I don't think theirs ever even been 4,000 people on VMK so theirs really nothing to worry about

Actually, as a regular total, there are 4000 people on most of the time. I do agree tho' there probably won't be *MUCH* trouble with getting registered. The biggest issue is submitting the registration correctly. Please pay close attention to the guidelines that have been posted -- and especially the tips by Briar and others. That is the easiest way to avoid heartache.

bumping up so that people still see the advice. ;)

Thanks! Us first-timers appreciate it! Still not clear on where to register. ??? Is there a form? Is it just free form? Hmmm.... freshman at college on first day (where DO I sign up for that class???) :surfweb:

I think it's just part of the "Contact Us" link from the homepage. I didn't
submit our entry last time, as I wasn't the leader. But if you have your
team name match your first room "Shallow End - (team name here),
list your participants names (spelled correctly), and every member's room titles (valid non-dictionary dancing titles)....you're good to go.

I think the single biggest disqualifier was that some teams submitted
dictionary dancing titles for the Everest event, so they couldn't compete.

I guess they'll put up a menu option for "register for ride competition"
in the laundry list of Contact Us options when they open it up for us.

The registrations just begin but the info is incomplete. Do we register room names, number of rooms, both or one of them? I am very worried :guilty:
