As this was our third year running at Orlando, the plan was to take it all at a slower pace, and enjoy the atmosphere. No queuing and no commando tactics. We have annual passes for Disney and length of stay passes for Universal. We’re giving Seaworld a Miss this year rather than try to cram too much in.

Day 6 – Thursday 18/10/01
Today’s planned itinerary – MGM, MNSSHP

Stephen was hungry when we got up so we decided to go and find a Black Angus for breakfast. Got there just before 10.00 and we were seated quickly. Stephen was delighted to find he could have a steak. He ordered New York strip steak with eggs and I had pancakes and sausage, which I smothered with maple syrup. Yummy. $16 total, which we thought was excellent.

As we were in the area, we decided to pop to Downtown Disney for a bit of retail therapy. We browsed in the Pooh shop and Disney at home, before heading into the World of Disney. There I found a gorgeous plush of Tigger hugging Pooh. I had to have it. I got a Pooh nightie and almost bought some matching slippers, but I thought the cats might attack them when we got home. I got a dumbo beanie ‘cause he was cute, and picked up a couple of bits for presents. Three more pins joined the growing pile, one of them dangly. Have you ever tried to decipher a Disney receipt? I’m looking at one now, and I can tell you that I bought two other items but I’ve no idea what they were.

Today’s plan was to go to MGM, but we decided to head back and go to Universal instead for a few hours so we could have a rest before going to MK. We stopped for gas on the way and as usual, were amazed at how cheap it is.

We parked up, dropped the shopping in our room, and walked to Universal. First stop was the store to get new caps. We’d decided we wanted some that weren’t Disney for when we were at US or IOA. (any excuse  )
Stephen wanted to go on ET first. We used the express queue but once inside they only had one desk open and it was the one in front of the standby queue so everyone in standby, who had been giving us dirty looks, barged in front. Of course, the line inside splits into two, so we went back into express and sailed past those same people and had a little smirk at them. Ok, I know that’s not very nice of us, but one of them trod on my toe :( .
I let Stephen have the next pick again, so got dragged onto the very bumpy BTTF. My pick next so I opted for MIB, which I love. Buzz lightyear with attitude :D. Stephen was peckish then so he had a hotdog while I had a coke. Then onto Jaws. I was sitting in just the right spot for a wetting, but our guide prevailed and the shark didn’t get us for his supper. Next we did earthquake. We’ve always managed to sit at the back of the train before, but this time we were right at the front and saw it all differently. There was a lot we,d missed seeing before.
Now I was peckish, but I didn’t want anything greasy. We went into the boulangerie and Stephen had a roast beef baguette and I had a health sandwich. It was really tasty and just what I’d wanted.
We’d never done Hanna-Barbera before as I assumed it was very much for the kiddies, but we thought we’d give it a try and it was quite fun. That was all we had time for so we headed back to the hotel to get changed and have 10 minutes with our feet up.

Time for Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party so we drove to the Magic Kingdom. Parked the car, and started walking towards the tram. Now, I knew that Stu was going to be there on the same night and I knew what costumes he and his family would be wearing, so I was keeping an eye out. Of course, I didn’t really expect to spot him in the parking lot, so when I saw Robin Hood up ahead, I thought it couldn’t possibly be him. Then I realised the DW and 2 DDs were dressed as he’d said. But no! It couldn’t be……could it? We sat in front of them on the tram and I wiggled my lime green ribbon about to see if he’d take the bait, as I was feeling too shy to speak first. I still wasn’t convinced it was him anyway . As we got off the tram I plucked up courage and asked if he was on the Dis boards, and of course it was him. (phew, what a relief) We only had time to exchange a few words before carrying on, and although we looked, we didn’t see them again. What were the chances of bumping into him like that, though? Stu, if you’re reading this, it was very nice to meet you :).

The past two years I’d fancied going on Peter Pan and Dumbo, but there was always a massive queue. Tonight we got a walk on onto both. First Peter Pan and then Dumbo. Aren’t they sweet? Winnie the Pooh had no queue so we went on that next and bounced with Tigger. I adore that ride! All three rides had longer queues when we came off them, so we seemed to have our timing right. People were lining the parade route by now, so remembering the advice to ride during the first parade and watch the second, we headed for Big Thunder Mountain. No queue for this. In the past, I havn’t really liked this. I have a fear of falling out of the car as it goes round the bends. Silly, I know but I don’t feel safe on any type of coaster. Tonight I wasn’t so worried though, and as Stephen likes this, I offered to go on again with him. He didn’t need asking twice, so round we went again. My turn now so we went on Splash mountain. No wait and we had the log to ourselves and sat right at the front. We got a bit wet .
I haven’t made a note of this, but I’m sure we must have gone for our complimentary photo next, as looking at it we seem to be a bit wet :D. I liked the background they used, and they managed to catch us both smiling and with eyes open.

We made our way over to Tomorrowland to see what the queue for Buzz was like, and on the way, the fireworks started. We had a nice view, considering, and stood and watched them. All of a sudden, they were all around us. Surround sound fireworks! Very nice. We didn’t know where to look first so we just turned round and round trying to see them all till we got dizzy :p. As soon as they finished, we ran to Buzz and got straight on. Stephen beat me, I’m sorry to say, getting his own back from when I beat him on MIB. We intended to go straight back on but the queue was out of the door, so we went to the Extraterrorestrial instead. It’s very intense in there but I do like it. The effects are great.

We were a bit peckish so we went the bakery and had a baguette each with a latte for me, and a coke for Stephen. When we came out it was nearly time for the parade so we found a nice spot just outside the bakery, and waited. We really enjoyed this. Stephen took several photos but I’m not sure how well they’ll come out. I really must remember to take them in to be developed soon.
Parade over, so we went back to Buzz where the queue had vanished, and I let Stephen beat me again. Well, it makes him feel all manly :D. When we came out, the queue for Buzz was out of the door again so Stephen said he wanted to go on the Jungle cruise. Off we went to Adventureland. The cruise was great. Michelle, our guide, told us lots of jokes and was very entertaining. From there we went on Pirates and ended up at Thunder mountain for our final ride of the night. I’m definitely getting braver, maybe I’ll make it onto Space mountain or Rock’n’Roller coaster before this trip ends.
Back to our hotel, where I read for a bit, while Stephen watched tv.
