So, I wanted to make choc. chip butterscotch bars to take to our friends' house yesterday. I started around 9 a.m. I got most of the ingredients out and then went to reach for the flour in the pantry. As I did so, I knocked a glass jar of tomato sauce onto my ceramic tile floor. It didn't just break, it shattered and SPLATTERED. It splattered on my ivory curtains, the walls, the inside of the pantry and ON ME. I just stood there staring at it saying NO NO NO (as if I could UNDO it somehow)...then DH, my knight in shining armor, arrived and cleaned it all up (what a guy) but said "I don't think you should do anything else. Forget the baking." But I was determined...so I plug in the hand mixer and stick in the metal beaters and guess what? The mixer was already switched ON so when I stuck the beater in it immediately started whirring around WITH MY FINGERS....OUCH!!!!!!!!!! But no blood, and nothing broken....then DH said "Really, it's not your day...just forget it." I said NO, I am making these bars if it kills me." So I finish the batter (or so I think) and pour it into the pan. "These look really moist," I say to myself and put the pan into the oven.
THEN I turn around and what do I see?? The FLOUR and BAKING SODA mixture in the bowl!!! I never put the flour in with the rest of the stuff!!!!!!!! If this didn't reduce me to tears, nothing would.
I pulled the pan out, threw the contents in with the flour and put it all back in the pan. As I was mixing AGAIN, Dh walked in and said "I thought you put that in the oven already." "Never mind, " I said.
When I got to our friends' house I said "You people are going to eat these bars and you are going to enjoy them!!"

Oh you poor thing. I've had baking days like that. I hope your bars went over well at the party.

When things like this happen to me, it becomes my QUEST to finish the job. I'm sure that in the end everything turned out great, but the QUEST to get there was mighty and great.

I should get my own show on the FoodNetwork...a combination of ER, Funniest Videos and Cooking.

WOW! I applaud you for going on. You are a lot stronger than I am.
