OK, this is totally off-topic, and probably no one cares. But I'm bouncing off the walls, heart-racing excited. I just found out a conference proposal I submitted for work was accepted. I'm going to Siena, Italy in November!

Whoo Hooo! :cool1:

Europe baby! :cool1:

First time in Italy! Can't wait!

Very cool! If I am very, very quiet, can I come along :tiptoe:

That's great, Dave! If you need chocolate tips, let me know. Siena is a beautiful city. I hope you can add some time to see Florence and/or Pisa, while you're in the area. San Gimignano is beautiful, too. If you've seen "Tea with Mussolini," that's the town. If you haven't, I highly recommend it!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! I'm very excited. I've been able to travel to Europe 3-4 times, but it's mostly been to Eastern Europe. I taught a course where I took students to Romania. About 6 years ago, my wife and I were able to go to a conference in Portugal, but other than that I haven't spent much time in Western Europe. I'm very excited to see some of Italy. The only downside is right now it looks like I'll be traveling on my own. I wish my wife was able to go with me, and we could share some of these experiences together. However, I am very appreciative to have the opportunity to go.

I haven't seen "Tea with Mussolini" - it's in the "queue" now.

How awesome for you Dave! That is so cool. It's probably not better than the Italy pavilion in Epcot though. :lmao:

Thank you Yvette! I noticed one flight goes through Amsterdam, and I was wondering if I could extend that layover. I have to make sure my traveling doesn't impact the family too much though.

Woo Hoo!!

Congrats on getting your paper accepted. :thumbsup2
Sounds like a fantastic opportunity- even if you do have to go alone. You can scout out the places to come to when the family can come along!: 3dglasses

I'm excited for you, and I don't even know you! Just saw your posting title, and thought I'd check it out! We were able to introduce our 12-year-old DS to Italy and Paris in June, and so I know all too well the excitement you have! His favorite places were Florence, our day in Tuscany, his Gladiator training in Rome, and riding the segway in Paris.
Have a great time, and happy planning!
