Hey Everyone,

This is a bit off topic... But there just isn't a topic in DIS for this. So I thought I would squeeze in here.

The Adventurer's Club on Pleasure island has been the perfect bar for me for the last decade. The 1930's atmosphere is amazing. If you want a quiet drink, sit upstairs, looking down on the activities in the main salon. Or grab a quiet moment in the Mask Room. And if you want to be entertained or be part of the action just pull up to the bar, talk to Babylonia and the Colonel and head on into the Library when the next show begins.

The Kizmit that makes the bar though is the actors who improv throughout the night, spending time with the patrons in the crowd and on stage.

Up until February of this year they had developed a veteran crew. They knew their roles inside and out. Pemelia Perkins, Hathaway Brown, Otis T Wren, Graves and the rest were simply perfectly internalized by the crew who impersonated them.

For some reason, early this year they reworked the cast, re-assigning the women to other places in Disney and doing the same with most of the male members of the cast. The result was a loss of that special spark that made the club so dear.

I would like to know if there are other Adventurer's Club fans out there. And if so, if they have noticed the changes... and if perhaps the new crew might be getting the feel for their roles yet.

Even diluted, it's worth a visit by those who haven't been there. And for veterans like myself, I'm hoping they regain their earlier glory! :moped:

I know exactly what you are talking about! I went to the Club in March of this year, showing it to my Mom for the very first time. She's heard me rave about it for years now, and I couldn't wait for her to see it! But, to my dismay, my favorite Pamelia Perkins was being played by someone else! I thought at the time that maybe the casts rotated or something, but your post makes me think maybe I was wrong in assuming that. I'll be heartbroken if I have no chance of ever seeing that particular actress as Pamelia again. :sad2:

Hey DavandFlav,

Yeah, I know exactly who you mean. The girl's real name is Allison. I had a chance to meet her on several occasions inside and outside the club.

She was the Perfect Pemelia.. and she did a heart stopping French Canadian Maid. As a point of reference, that's her on the far right on this fan website's picture. http://www.adventurersclub.net

Anyway, if you want to see her now, she is in a show over in MGM. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe she is in the Beauty and the Beast show. I thought I saw her on stage in May.

Congalush!! It's good to meet a fellow fan of the club... I'll buy you and the Colonel are free drink!

YES YES YES! That's her! She was SOOOOO great! Darn it! Do you think there's any chance of her returning to The Adventurer's Club? I'll never swear off going, but she is sorely missed.

Dough, with which I buy my beer,
Ray, the guy I buy beer from.... :teeth:

Me the guy I buy beer for
Fa the distance to the stooooore!

You're deffinately a fellow Adventurer!

I have my doubts about them bringing her back. I emailed with her a few times when they were making the change. It sounded pretty permanent.

But I surely miss the old crew... And I'm trying to have faith in the new crew.

Trying to be optomistic, I guess it's like the first season of a show on television. Many times they are just learning their parts the first year. And they get so much better in subsequent seasons.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I've become a bit of a regular to the AC... In additon to the normal rotation, I've noticed some changes in the casting of roles... but as with anything, people move on to different things. It's not neccessarily "Disney" that is making the changes. Perhaps the actors/actresses wanted to try new roles, and new challenges. I know a bunch of the cast also perform at the Comedy Warehouse. Others have wanted to move onto different roles. Some even have moved onto other venues. One of my favorite Otis T Wren's is now performing in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang up in NYC.

Yes, its sad when they leave... but life goes on. We'll adjust. After all, we all adjusted to Darrin on Bewitched! LOL

This place(AC) has to be THE stupidest place on earth! I am more amazed that it continues to survive!

I LOVED the AC when we went for the first time during our trip a few weeks ago, and I can't imagine it being any better. Too bad I didn't get there b/f the changes. Before February did they not switch parts?

We have spent many an evening drinking away at the AC...Our usual routine is to see the first show at the Comedy Club, and then we spend the rest of the evening in the AC...

We have noticed in the past that the "usual" crew would switch roles on consecutive nights...and we did notice that they had swapped a character from the hoop de doo to the AC cast...but it's a shame to hear that Pemelia (Allison) is gone...She was our fav by far....

The AC is my fav part of Disneyworld...I think they need to create more of that type of entertainment for adults...We will be there next Saturday night and I can't wait!!!

The performers rotate characters nightly. Any one may repeat a character on consecutive nights, or they may not.

I inderstand this is a bar for adults, but is there a time during the day maybe, when kids can tour this? My son wants to be Indiana Jones when he grows up, or maybe that dinosuar guy from the twenties? Anyway he would go into hysterics for this place.

Hey Again Everyone,

I'm so glad to know the Adventurer's Club has some ardent fans. I was there the last night Allison worked at the Adventurer's Club. She was playing the part of Pemilia and nearly all the crowd was there to wish her well and see her in that role one more time, myself included.

I agree with Copper68. I really wish there were more places like the Adventurers Club. It's relaxing and engaging all at the same time.

And Spoon Full, I can't think of a time when I visited the club that I didn't see children at one point or another. This is where I have mixed feelings. I like to have a few drinks in an adult environment. So I'm always a little disconcerted as I swallow my 100 proof in front of the kids. But then I remember, hey, it's a BAR.

However, if I were 10 years old, I would be busting a gut to get a look inside the club. It really does have an adventuresome feel; and is certainly rife with Indiana Jones-esque trinkets. So, kids are deffinately allowed in at the parents' discretion.

TDC Nala, hey, you look like a fellow Adventurer. And maybe you know yet another member of the club. I can't remember his name. But he has made a CD of the music heard in the club... including "Yeah Toast". If you know who he is, I really want to find him. He gave my wife a Birthday present (the CD) while we were in the club. And I would like to say Thank You... Anything you know would be appreciated.

*sigh* The 'ol AC. DH and I have been fans for almost 4 years now! Not as long as most members but long enough to know that Allison was a fave of ours as well.
I still get a big kick out of the "new" cast though. DH and I both interact very well with them. I look forward to our WDW visits just to head to the AC. I have even taught my fellow co-workers...Marching along we're Adventurers...they can all sing it without skipping a beat :cool1:

Kungaloosh! :drinking1

Aww, sad to hear that Pamelia isn't there anymore! She was my favorite in that role!

Anyone know if anyone else is gone? I miss the AC!

We climb the highest mountains, just to get a better view...

We Plumb the deepest Oceans
Cause we're daring through and through!!

Yes, they literally kicked out all of the females who had been there so long.
I'm not sure what the motivation was.

Regardless, it now falls to a new group to find their funny bone.

And if you come in here a stranger...
You will exit as a friend!!

It takes some intelligence and imagination to understand and appreciate the place, but that's the great thing about WDW; so many other places to remove yourself to if you feel one is "stupid".

My husband and I LOVE the Adventurers Club ... we go everytime we are in Disney ... IT IS THE BEST !!!!

Yeah right, whatever.

Hey,

Yes, that's one of the really fantastic things about Disney. The best attractions are thought provoking. I've been concerned that developers feeling pressure from places like six flags would eliminate the attractions with some cognitive quality.

The Adventurer's Club is a tremendous example of a place that stirs the mind as well as the senses. :groom:
