I had a Disney vacation account going for my nephew and niece, which means I now have a gift card for the amount that was in the account, since they shut the service down.

Their next trip probably will not be until 2019. Is there any reason I can not buy their tickets now with the said gift card, and just leave them parked in an MDE account? (they don't expire if they are unused, correct?) Granted I do not know how long their next trip will be, but I figure an 8 day park hopper will cover it. Worst case, they only use 7 days, and a day gets wasted. That wasted day costs like 10 bucks. And if I buy them now, I am sure there will be one or two prices increases before they go that I will be saving on that will more than offset that possible wasted day.

Other thoughts or recommendations?

TIA

Tickets currently purchased will expire on Dec. 31, 2018,
so your plan of "saving money on ticket increases" won't work.

It is POSSIBLE that if you wait and purchase tickets in (approx.) Feb. of 2018, those
tickets might be slated to expire on Dec. 31, 2019, but that's just a guess at this point.

Tickets purchased now have a use by date of 12/31/2018. If unused after 12/31/2018, the amount paid can be applied towards a new ticket purchase of equal or greater cost.

Thanks!

It is not really about saving the money, its more about not wanting to have to keep track of the gift card for 2 years! One less thing to lose....

A little late for that. ;)

How do u upgrade your tickets if that happens and can u still get fast passes early

This is something you would want to call Guest Services about, before the tickets expire. They will help you "bridge the cost" for the currently valid tickets, and once you have proper, valid tickets loaded into MDE, then you can make FP+ as according to your entitlements (on/off site, AP, etc.) If you just show up at the gates and have them work this out for you, it could eat hours into your precious Park time!

I agree with this, for the most part, but I would not say it would take "hours."

okay, "hours" is hyperbolic but when you are at WDW, one of the most depressing lines is the Guest Services line! While you are watching all these other families greet, have fun, eat, get excited... you're standing in a line, pleading your case to a CM... :(

I'd be very hesitant to buy tickets too early with an expectation of "upgrading" after the expiration date. I have no doubt that WDW will allow the credit value, plus any applicable price change. My concern is whether they'll allow you to upgrade tickets through MDE before you arrive at WDW. Currently, upgrading tickets, other than those purchased with a package, must be done in person; so unless you are local that negates the opportunity to schedule FP+ in advance. I would not want to buy tickets now with intent to use them past the expiration date. Unless you are willing to potentially forgo FP+.

Enjoy your vacation!

Slight correction ~ the first day must be used by 12/31/18.
