I am new... How far in advance do I need to book or how far in advance can I book shore excursions? Our cruise is June 13, 2009 Western Caribbean. Also, do I guarantee with a credit card? We have never been on a cruise but couldn't pass up the good deal I happened upon while researching...never thought we could afford a Disney Cruise. Thanks for any pointers!

For first time cruisers will be able to book online for shore excursions and Palo and spa treatments at the 75 day mark before your cruise. You must also be paid in full, if not mistaken. You would sign onto the DCL site and pull up your reservation and it will allow you make your bookings. Don't worry if the date and time for spa or Palo or some excursions seem sold out. They do hold a certain number of excursions spots and ressies for Palo and spa back to be able to be booked on the day you board.

Once you have sailed one time on DCL you automatically become a member of the Castaway Club and then on future cruises you will be able to book at 90 day mark before your cruise.

Also excursion charges go onto your onboard account which is guaranteed with a credit card or cash. You do not get charged until the first day of your cruise.

I hope you will join our Dis group for that cruise on the Dis meet thread. :goodvibes

99% of shore trips are debited to your on board stateroom account, there are the odd few 'Signature' shore trips that you have to pay for in advance, I had two on my August cruise for Private van/car hire that I paid DCL for in May.

Normally these type of shore trips are clearly shown that you pay in advance.

Private Dolphin interaction, and boat hire are other types where you pay in advance.

I would expect some like this for the MED and BALTIC in 2010.

Before you book with the ship, have a look at http://caribbeanshoretours.com you can save so much money booking on your own and there are so many better tours available. You can do private tours in many ports for the cost of regular ones on the ship. Do some research ahead of time, you'll be amazed by the amount of money you can save
