I'm very glad to read that no one had a problem sharing adult TS meals with other adults on their plan (well, except for the occasional rude server who is afraid they might be shorted on the tip). That is exactly what DH and I had planned to do for a couple of our TS meals because it's the way we normally eat in restaurants (sharing appetizer and/or dessert, and even the entree if it's large), we wouldn't be too full to enjoy the parks, food wouldn't be wasted, etc. It just seemed practical. Two CM's when I called to make ADR's, and my TA all said it would be fine. The
DDP brochure does not say anywhere that family members on the same plan can't share their food with each other.
But when I saw all the heated debate about sharing TS meals on several Disney message boards, someone -- might have been bicker, I'm not sure -- wrote that if we had questions, they were best posed directly to Disney. So I wrote to Guest Services. The email reply from Disney said, "If one Guest wishes to use a dining credit and the other Guest in the party wishes to order food and beverage and pay for it instead of using their dining credit, that is permitted. However, ordering one meal and sharing is not permitted with the dining plan." Since I am the only one who seems to have gotten this reply, I will be happy to forward this email to a board administrator or to someone in Disney Dining or Guest Services if they want to see it.
Now
other than that one email, it seems like everyone else is saying sharing is fine, no one has had a problem with it, as long as kid's credits aren't used to purchase adult meals, and the adults sharing have both paid for the plan (no "treating" people not on the plan). So I'm going to just chalk that email up to an overzealous CM, maybe misinterpreting the rules, or quoting a rule verbatim that no one enforces or observes.
But after doing the math -- and I actually dusted off Excel and did a spreadsheet

-- financially, it makes more sense for us not to share any TS meals. It might be because a couple of our planned ADR's are for less expensive character breakfasts, but after adding up the numbers it's more cost effective for us to just order full TS meals (even if we can't eat everything) and pay OOP for one character breakfast, rather than share a couple of TS meals and pay OOP for an extra beverage and a couple of extra items. So as much as I hate to waste food...I think it makes more sense.
