Adults sharing TS meals?

If this question has been over asked I apologize...I'm not on this board very often.

Are adults allowed to share a TS meal in places other than buffets? Last year it wasn't supposed to be allowed. It would be great if adults COULD share...my DH and I would definitely share at Sci Fi and some other places...the portions are SO huge and I hate to waste food but it always ends up that way. YAY sharing. :)

anybody know? Anybody?:confused3

thanks:goodvibes

Several people have asked this too and it seems like everyone who asks it gets bombarded with annoying clips of the Disney brochures showing that it's not allowed...followed with a million exclamation marks and snubs...so I'll say it nicely before that happens.

According to Disney no sharing of meals is allowed.

I wish it was allowed too, because the meal sizes are enormous...but unfortunately it's not allowed.

Thanks for not being snarky...:)

I am aware that the rules said "No Sharing" last year, but there have been some rule changes with the DDP for this year and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the new rules and sharing...

just a question, not a plan for stealing disney meals...

We were at WDW a few weeks ago, and DH and I shared at Tony's for lunch, and Le Cellier for dinner, and didn't have any problems. In fact, both places didn't even charge us for the extra soda. We left a nice tip of course!

We liked sharing b/c we didn't want to eat all that food at one sitting, so by sharing a big lunch, and then sharing the big dinner, it kind of spread it out so we enjoyed eating, but didn't feel overly full at the end of each meal!

I know, some people might be trying to rip off Disney, but I think the majority of us are trying to find the balance of not wasting food or eating to gluttony and yet being able to get their money's worth at some places we wouldn't normally pay out of pocket to eat.

Nennie...we're you on the Dining Plan? I think CampbellScot was referring to being able to share while on the Dining Plan. I didn't think they would allow you to share on that...but if they do. YEAH!!!

I've been following the Disney Dining Plan very closely since it began in 2005 and I don't remember any references whatsoever that indicated that Disney explicitly prohibited sharing of food off your plate with others at your table. The only thing Disney has prohibited was the sharing of credits with folks who aren't on the Dining Plan -- you cannot use your credits to cover meals ordered by friends and family unless they're listed on your hotel reservation as staying with you in your hotel room.

Now, very recently, I've read messages indicating that that might soon change, but up until now, sharing has been allowed.

Regardless, whenever two guests share a single meal at a sit-down restaurant, it is expected that the gratuity will reflect the cost of service for two diners, not just the 15%-20% of the bill, which is for just one diner (one meal ordered == one diner's cost of service covered). So I double the gratuity in situations where there are two of us sharing a single meal.

bicker...I thought it wasn't allowed to share TS credits even within your own DDP group??

For example (on the DDP)...can we go to a Table Service meal (non buffet) and order only one adult meal and share it between me and my husband? And then save that other TS credit for another day?

Again, there has never been anything from Disney that explicitly prohibited sharing the food off your plate with others at your table. Nor has there been any significant indications that any Disney-owned restaurants have ever required every diner at a table to order an entree.

Many people have reporting sharing meals without any problems whatsoever.

If rumblings are to be believed, that may change soon, but I tend to doubt it. I could be wrong about that though.

The DDP documentation states,
"Use your meals and snacks in any order and in any amount throughout your package stay until your total is depleted".
As a family, we often share dinners and apps when eating out in a family style manner. I expect to do the same while at Disney using the DDP.

Keep in mind that Buffet type meals are always charged per person.

That's a good point Bicker, about the tip reflecting two meals and not one. Perhaps that is part of the problem w/ people sharing on the DDP. It messes up the tips for the waiters?

Thanks everyone for your input!! Both my husband and I really try not to overstuff ourselves but we tend to be grazers...if there is food there we'll nibble and chit chat until it's gone. Thank goodness we are both dedicated runners or we'd be Pooh sized in no time flat!!

My husband actually worries about it more than I do and he is worrying about eating on vacation b/c he gained three pounds on our honeymoon last year:rolleyes: :rotfl:

I do have that childhood mantra of "Don't waste food, there are hungry children who would be glad to have that..." It's a programmed guilt that gets me every time!

I would love it if we could share meals, just for health sake...and my step kids eat like very small, very picky birds!

I guess we'll see what happens as more people experience this year's DDP!

thanks again everyone for the input!!:thumbsup2

Thanks for asking this question and for all the answers. If I have it correct, when my family is at a buffet meal, all of us will be charged our 1 (or 2) TS. However, in a non-buffet TS, we could only use 1 TS between DH and myself and save another one for another time. Yes?

I hope that is right because I have been a little bit worried about the waste of food for some of the meals if we both had to order. Usually, when we eat as a family, DH and I split and entree and sometimes kids split one or two, depending on size. The portions are so huge.

Last time we went 2004, they actually asked us if we wanted another plate, to share the meal out ! :)

It seems like the DDP no sharing rule, like everything else with Disney, is subject to the whims of the CM you talk to or what time of day you are eating...or the weather...which makes us Dis-ers NUTS b/c we speculate and debate and second guess ourselves into ulcers so that by the time we arrive at Disney all we will be able to eat is instant mashed potatoes and JELLO!:headache: ;)

I guess we'll sure see what happens b/c people sure do seem to be sharing!

They have never published ANYTHING about no sharing on the DDP that I have ever seen nor have I ever seen it discussed on here.

We shared without a problem on the DDP and many others have, too. None of the DDP paperwork says anything about not doing so - we read them very carefully to make sure we were doing things by the book.

It's way too much food for one person!

I'm sorry, but out of concern for the health of our guests, the instant mashed potatoes have been replaced by low-carb mashed cauliflower. Please also note that the jello (which is sugar free--see above) replaces all other desserts on the dessert menu.

Also, we have determined that the segway tour encourages a sedentary lifestyle so, effective immediately, we're replacing it with a circuit training tour of the World Showcase! That's right folks, push ups in Japan! Leg lifts in Norway! Sit ups in Germany!

Have a magical vacation! ;) :joker:

We've used the Dining plan three times (free in Sept '05 and Sept '06 and purchased in May '06) and thus far have never had an issue sharing. In fact some restaruants have split it in the kitchen and brought it out. As Bicker said though, we do tip as if two had ordered and often times more if they split the food for us.

We had no problem sharing. On occasion we shared with our 6 year old (not to save credits, just TOOOO much food) and also hubby and I shared on occasion. A lot of time (for hubby and I) I only wanted an appetizer and dessert and he only an entree. That way it saved room for an adult beverage.:goodvibes

This is awesome! I thought I'd read somewhere that you weren't suppose to share. Well I'm glad I'm wrong, because this only makes the DDP even more worth it!

We've done the dining plan 3 times also (Aug. 2005, Aug. 2006 & Dec. 2006). We are 4 "adults" (2 kids ages 10 & 14). All 3 times, we've shared at a few TS places, including 50's PTC, Sci Fi, Spoodles, Wolfgang Puck Cafe, Beaches & Cream, Whispering Canyon Cafe, etc.

For our family, sharing is good from time to time so we do not leave the table overstuffed and not feeling like going on rides.

The only place it was an issue was Spoodles. Our server was wonderful and sweet as can be to us until we told her we wanted to share. She literally turned into Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde and was cold and rude to us after that - literally not even speaking - just setting the food & bill down and NO drink refills for us.

Everywhere besides Spoodles, we tipped double or more depending on the service we received.
