My husband really wants us to eat at Prime Time Cafe. We've got four kids (6, 8, 11, and 14). I honestly don't see anything on their menu that my two older kids would eat (not even appetizers)!

They don't look under 9. What are the chances they could order off of the kid menu? I'm not worried about the small portions at all. It's just the kid-friendly choices that they still need.

TIA

Karen

Your kids must be incredibly picky if they won't eat fried chicken, chicken noodle soup (appetizer) , spaghetti & meatballs (granted, vegetarian meatballs), or chicken pot pie!

What sorts of food do they typically eat?? If they would eat chicken nuggets or chicken strips, they should be fine with eating fried chicken. If the side dishes aren't appealing to them, you may be able to sub different sides.

In answer to your actual question, they would probably be fine ordering from the kids menu.

Over Thanksgiving week, my DD12 sometimes ordered from the kids menu and sometimes from the adult menu. It just depended on what she was in the mood for. She had no problems ordering off the kids menu when she wanted to.

We were not on the dining plan. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

there should be no problems with anyone in your group...including grownups...ordering from the kids menu...a bad server may try to give some attitude about it, but it is allowed...of course if you're on the dining plan it doesn't make any financial sense but if you're paying cash it's fine...

I will get flaming daggers for this for sure....

DH and I sometime's order kids meals... for ourselves... Usually because we are not very hungry and just want a small portion. We only have done it at CS. I am sure you will be fine ordering for them off the kids menu. My friend order from the kids menu her entire trip... because she was pregnant and would only eat PBJ grilled cheese or chicken tenders and sometimes couldn't even eat that....she just explained her "problem" to the serves... they were fine with her dietary needs. LOL.

This may be true in the real world, ,but not in Disney. There are some restaurants in disney that this will not be allowed. That said, I don't think Primetime is one of them, so I think you'd be fine.

If not I'd do a fried chicken with different sides and split it between a couple of them. That portion is HUGE!

My oldest (ds14) has Asperger's, and eating has been a huge battle for him. We've finally gotten him to the point of trying a few new things, but he HATES spaghetti, won't eat soup or salad or anything mixed together. The fried chicken would be iffy...he may take a few bites. My dd12 eats much better, but if choosing off the kid menu is OK, I bet she would choose those options (even though she hates when I make her eat off of a "kid" menu, since she's now almost a teen).

Thank you all for giving me hope for this option. Dh will be happy that we can make this work so he can go eat his pot pie!!!:goodvibes

I would think if you are paying OOP and not on the dining plan they would not give you a hard time at all. Otherwise you just have very large 9 year olds ;)

has nothing to do with a server being "bad" or not. Disney makes the rules, the servers are to follow them if they want to keep their jobs. Most of the time if the server goes to the manager they will get permission but not always. It's not up to the server.

Many restaurants will make an adult plate of something on the kids menu...ie chicken nuggets. Just talk to the server about it. They deal with tons of dietary issues all day long.....it's part of what they do. Don't be concerned about it at all.

We were there over the holidays with a large group and one tween had dietary issues and asked about the kids menu. They were offered anything on the kids menu at an adult portion. So this should not be a problem at all.

Yep, DS has gotten a HUGE bowl of mac & cheese, and also got a double order of the entree portion of a kids meal at 50's. You can order anything off the kids meal a la carte, so two entrees, one side, one dessert - they are all priced separately as far as the check is concerned. It just adds up to the menu total quoted price for one kids meal.

If you are concerned about your son, you can call the Special Needs department and find out how to accommodate his dining needs. You may need to order some things as soon as you get there, or let them know if advance. Disney does whatever they can to help you have a magical time!

This is one of our favorite restaurants, all 3 of my kids (12,8 and 5) ordered off the adult menu last year..Fried chicken and pot roast are a big hit!!:dance3:

I have ordered off child's menu at CS and never had a problem, but never tried it at TS. I've seen lots of adults do it at CS. Sometimes you want a meal (not just a snack) but a small one. They're probably aware of this, but I haven't seen it being an issue :goodvibes

My wife was definitely not a picky eater, but tended to have tiny meals and snack a lot; effectively having five or six tiny meals a day. She never (in her 50's) had any problem ordering from the children's menus; she especially like the 4oz filet at Concourse Steak House.

Many times I ate CS kids meals last trip. I just didnt want that much food. Just something quick and easy but not make me super full.

Man...I wish I knew this was allowed. Having been to WDW while on Weight Watchers, I would order the adult meal and throw half away. What a waste!!! Now, I can order a children's meal and it's within the rules?? I will have to remember that for next time.

Very much so. It's not like you are getting a full size meal for kids pricing. You are getting a kids sized meal for the price. And the kids meals usually come with veggie and / or fruit. We had carrots and grapes to snack on while walking around too :)

I tend to eat 5 or 6 smaller portioned meals a day, and that helped a LOT. Never get hungry, so less apt to stuff myself at a 'real' meal.

Hi Karen! We have three boys (ages 5, 11 and 12) and our 11-year-old always orders from the kids' menu everywhere. I've heard that the Plaza will not allow it (not a problem - he likes the burgers on the regular menu) and I've heard that La Hacienda will not allow it (it wasn't a problem last year for us, but I think that's changed.) But we've never had any difficulty with our pre-teen ordering from the children's menus, and we've been to WDW quite a few times over the past two years.

He did order from the children's menu at 50's the last time we were there, and it wasn't a problem from a policy perspective. But our server . . . well, not our best 50's server. He really made fun of our 11-year-old for ordering from the children's menu - made a really big deal about it and told him repeatedly that he wasn't ever going to have a girlfriend if he orders like that, etc. It was a little much. Really bothered our son, to the point that he's a reluctant to return. But that was just once - our other servers at 50's teased about other topics and were really fun - it was just that one time.
