Adults and ADD

Anyone here begin taking ADD meds in your adult years? I'd appreciate hearing what meds you tried or are currently on, specifically any info or details you learned from being on them. (like side effects, good or bad ones)

I'm unsure/uneasy about many of these drugs but may find myself functioning better on them than off. Any and all advice would be welcome.

Can't help you with your questions, but I'd be curious to hear the answers.. I am 100% positive - without a shadow of a doubt - that my adult DD suffers from ADD and although she has spoken to several doctors about it, they are reluctant to make that diagnosis themselves.. Evidently there are only a select few in our area that specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of adult ADD..

My DH is on Concerta. He has no side effects and WOW, is it great that he's on meds! No more losing his attention midsentence, and he's now aware when he is becoming distracted. Good stuff!

My husband takes Metadate, I believe. He had previously tried Strattera but his doctor switched him the Metadate. Not sure if it was interfering with other meds or wasn't working so great or what. Metadate is a time-release Ritalin, I think.
The medicine helps control his thoughts, but he still needs to be kept on task sometimes [behavioral modification/habit re-training is involved].

DH is recently on Concerta too. What a HUGE difference! He still has moments, but he's at least able to recognize them and handle it.

The first two or three weeks he was on it, he had difficulty sleeping, but he adjusted. Other than that - nothing but good stuff. He asked me why I never sent him sooner to get meds I guess his ADD made him forget that I've been suggesting it for the last 11 yrs.
