I am terminally ill with cancer and my church decided that they wanted to grant my wish to take the kids to WDW before I don't feel good enough to do it. I have 4 children, so it's a party of 6 travelling. I am currently wheelchair bound due to pain when walking long distances. I walk around at home, but not a lot.

With help from many friends and networking, we have arranged our lodging at Fort Wilderness in a cabin. WDW Compassion Partners are donating 3 days worth of park-hopper passes. But the other things, we need to arrange for ourselves, and they will be paid for by the church. We will be flying in on 10/6 and leaving on 10/12.

Got a boatload of questions.

1. We've been told that we should rent a golf cart on Ft. Wilderness. However, a golf cart isn't going to hold all 6 of us, and I'm the only one who's wheelchair bound. We're going to take my own chair, so I'm thinking this is an expense we can skip. What do you think?

2. We're going to be buying 2 more days of passes, I think. We were told that we really should do the Disney Dining Plan as well, but it does not look like we can buy the DDP under the circumstances since it's part of a package (lodging was already booked by a cast member, 3 days of passes donated, etc.). Does anyone know if we can buy this seperately?

3. If we do not raise enough to purchase the 2 extra days of passes, the Compassion Partners program will give us 1 or 2 days to Universal Stuidos, or one day each to Seaworld or Busch Gardens. Which of those choices would you recommend for a family with 16, 14, 11, and 7 year olds?

I am so excited about this trip. :woohoo: I'm sure that I'll have other questions as the trip gets closer. Now we're just praying that I'm healthy enough to enjoy this dream vacation! You guys have such good advice for each other. Thanks for sharing your WDW wisdom with me!

Okay, I can help you with the Fort Wilderness part of your questions. While a golf cart is fun, it is not necessary. And you are right, it wouldn't hold your whole party so you'd have someone making two trips. The buses run regularly and accommodate wheelchairs, so you won't have any problems.

Hopefully someone else can help you with your other questions. If you have any more questions about Fort Wilderness feel free to post over on the DisCamping board.

I'm heading off for FW tomorrow, so if you want a sample of the check-in literature (map, schedules, etc.) please feel free to send me a private message with your address and I'll get an extra set and mail them off when we get back.

Have fun planning your trip!

Barbara

If you go to SeaWorld your ticket and a companion's ticket will be half off.

CampingCorgi, I just sent you a private message, but then I got an error, and I don't know if you got it. Thanks for your kind offer!

You might have more luck on this question looking in the Restaurant Board.
I DO know that all members of your party have to be part of the plan. I don't know if it can be purchased separately or only as a package.

They all have websites, so I'd suggest you look at the websites and see which park would have the most things your party would like.

Sending lots of pixie dust for a wonderful trip and lots of good memories.:wizard:

The dining plan can only be purchased/added if you have a package that includes the room and tickets. If the room is purchased separately and the tickets purchased separately ( or in your case, donated) then you would not be able to add the dining package. It may not be so important though since you have the cabin. While I know you are probably looking forward to dining in the restaurants, at least a quick breakfast would be possible in the cabin and would save some funds for the special meals you'd have in the parks. I would think your family would enjoy visiting Sea World. It's very relaxing and there are many attractions to enjoy from a w/c. Universal would probably appeal most to your teens but IOA has a really cute area for the younger children, and if your younger children enjoy more of the "thrill rides" then they might also like Universal. Hope you have a great vacation!---Kathy

Hello DISers:

I am the one who brought Fisherado to the DIS, where she posted her question. Thanks so much for giving her your insight.

Unfortunately, my dear friend (we went to HS together) will be unable to take her family to WDW. Her mother has informed me that the trip (which was going to be a surprise to her kids) has been cancelled and that she is now in a hospice facility. Things don't look good.

:sad1:

If you would please, keep her in prayer. I wish she could have been able to make this trip. She was so excited about it.

I will keep her and her family in my thoughts and prayers.

Amie

My goodness, this has made me so very sad, I will be praying for her and her family, there are never any words...God Speed to them !:sad1:

She and her family are in my prayers as well. I'm so sorry to hear his sad news.---Kathy

I didn't not see this until this morning. I will be thinking and praying for their family.

This is so sad to hear, I am very sorry for her family.
Perhaps as part of their healing they may still make a trip when they feel they can.
I lost my daughter shortly after a Disney trip last year and this trip is about healing and making memories. Disney suggested to us a ballon release their in her honor. I am not sure the youngest 11 can do it.

I am not sure I can do it....
Take everything from life today, you never know what waits outside your door tomorrow.

Prayers and blessing to her family and to you for supporting your friend.
Dianne
