What a strange weekend.
Sarah learned that she could climb out of her bed last week, so we went to Babies R Us (BRU) to order the conversion kits to convert her crib to a toddler bed and then later to a full-size bed. It turns out that her bed is being discontinued on the cherry finish so they don't have the conversion kits in the warehouse and ordering them will take twelve or more weeks. We certainly can't wait that long, so we searched out the items in other Babies R Us stores. We found the toddler bed kit in Douglasville, GA and the full-size kit in Chattanooga, TN. Having them shipped from those stores to our local one surprisingly would still take weeks, so ROAD TRIP!!!!
Friday evening about 9pm, we left our house in Franklin, TN on the 4.5 hour trek to Douglasville. Cathy drove nearly the entire way as I was super exhausted. Somehow, we didn't get in bed at the hotel until about 5:15 am. I had gone probably 15 hours between meds and the throat pain had migrated to my jaw and ear. While far from unbearable, it was definitely bothersome.
Saturday, we were up at ten and on our way. We ran by BRU and picked up the toddler kit and then we visited the Atlanta Zoo. That was quite the sub-average zoo and was filled pretty full with seriously rude people, so I'm glad that it was just a side trip rather than the primary mission. Sarah and Jake loved the train and carousel, so that made it a worthwhile stop.
I took over driving duties from Atlanta to Chattanooga and then on to home. The kids were worn out from two-days on the raod and slept nearly the entire way home. We were fearful that they would then be up all night, but they ended up sleeping just fine, happily.
All three days, I ended up just having pain meds once in the morning and then again in the late evening. The pain is better than it was late last week, but the tickle in my throat is definitely bugging me more. I'm mostly not worrying much about what I eat, but I have noticed that food that is a chore to swallow doesn't mix well with soda. My hypothesis is that the food scrapes off any protective coating from the wounds and then the acid from the soda causes ouchiness. Soda drank in the absence of food is not a problem and chewy or scratchy food without soda is not as big of a problem.
My follow-up with my doctor is Thursday afternoon. I have every reason to believe that each day from here on out will be slightly better than the preceding one until all is well.
At the hotel in Douglasville, my wife bedded down with one toddler while I wrestled the other to sleep. I asked her if I had snored and she told me that she didn't know because the room AC was too loud. This and the fact that she didn't mention my snoring while she was driving tells me that if I do still snore that it is significantly lessened from before. This combined with the facts that my O2 levels were fine at the hospital and that I haven't been waking up with headaches suggest that the procedures were very successful in correcting both my sleep apnea and snoring and that I will likely see even more improvements as any residual swelling resolves.
