Adult ordering from children's menu?

I had gastric-bypass surgery almost 4 years ago. Because of this, I eat like a bird and usually less than what is served on a child's portion. Do any of you know if the stated ages for children's menus are enforced? I did note on another thread (discussing POP breakfast) that 2 adults commented on getting children's portions. I don't make a habit of discussing my surgery with strangers, so I almost never bring this up with a waiter/waitress unless it is at a buffet that is very pricey. Thanks! :flower3:

Disney has consistently been very generous in waiving the age limitations on the child menus, on request. That doesn't mean that that won't change, though, so be prepared for either eventuality.

(Note that this only pertains to child menus -- buffets you'll be charged based on age, strictly.)

My son was about 13 and they wouldn't let him order from the children's menu.

Even if they do allow you to order from the children's menu, your offerings will be very limited. Nothing like the adult menu.

I don't believe you will be permitted to pay the children's price for a buffet. I do recall some discussion about presenting a doctor's certification for surgery, maybe someone will know more about that. But if you prefer not to present a certification or outline a medical reason, you will be paying the adult price no matter how much you intend to eat.

At a la carte places and counter service, I believe adults are generally permitted to order from the children's menu if they wish (this is apparently at the discretion of the restaurant and some may not permit it.) If you're on the dining plan, you'll be using adult credits to pay for the child's meal, no reduction in price is given.

My DH had the surgery last year. He received a card from his doctor to show at restaurants explaining that he can only eat smaller portions. Many people who have had the surgery and gone to WDW have reported being able to pay the child's price for a buffet after asking the server. It is not WDW policy but rather at each manager's discretion whether to honor this request or not.

We will be splitting meals at TS restaurants and he will be showing his card to the wait staff at buffets. He has no desire to eat what is shown on kid's menus. He would rather enjoy some good adult food just in much smaller portions.

I have order from the kids' menu at Rose & Crown & it was no problem. It was under the old dining plan so I got the appt & the kid'd meal. Thery did take an adult credit but no big deal to me as I wouldn't have eaten all my adult meal so I didn't waste food. I think it all depends on the resturant. No need to say why other than I can't eat a full meal. If you are on the DDP they will just take an adult credit. MHO all you can do is ask & told no or yes.

From our experiences, anyone can eat from the children's menu if they want to, but it would be a problem on the DDP.

We have had items off the children's menu at many of the WDW restaurants. My 17 yo is either ravenous or just barely hungry when mealtime rolls around. We've never had an issue getting her or her friend a kid's meal at any TS restaurant.

You may want to look at the appetizer offerings. Generally, the kids menu choices are much more appealing to children than adults. I am a tiny adult and eat much less than most. Sometimes, I will just order an appetizer. They're usually a perfect size for me. A soup and side salad is plenty of food too. Sometimes, I just order an entree because it's what I want to eat. I just leave what I don't finish.

Yup, after looking through a lot of menus, I think it will be appetizers, salad or soup for me. ;)

Ive never tried it at TS meals but at CS, I've always ordered a kids meal. BUT, I'm up there ordering my children's meals also and they are looking for a table with dh LOL..

I think for counter service you would be fine...My mom and I usually order from the kids menu whether we are at the Pop or Cosmic Ray's...the portions are just smaller for us. We both lost weight with Weight Watchers and ordering the children's portions are one way too keep it in check, even on vacation. :)

I usually pay out of pocket for breakfast, nd I get the Kids meal then , just becuase I am not a big break. eater, but I do want a little something :thumbsup2

Yes, they will let you do this as long as you are not on the dining plan.

My friend is 40 and does it all the time. She eats 5 small meals a day and always orders kids meals with no issues.

However, if you have something from a doctor explaining a medican reason, I am sure they would work it out so you can do it while on the DDP as well, but you would still be held to an adult price I guess.
