Adult Only Venue

Well now that Pleasure Island will be no more I am trying to think what Disney has planned for adults visiting WDW. We stopped going to PI when they started letting in families with children. Does anyone have suggestions of where to enjoy an evening for adults?

Hi Sadie,
I feel your pain! It doesn't seem like there's anyplace in WDW where adults can be assured of no encounters with children. About a month ago I posted a topic about the possibility of 1 or 2 restaurants where children under 18 would not be permitted. WELL, it went on for quite a while before the administrator shut it down, but there were quite a few parents who acted as if I recommended boiling the kids in oil. I fully understand that its Disney World. Anyway, I have no real suggestion, I'm just venting!

I agree with you both. I stopped going to PI when I paid $30 for three drinks (with tips) and didn't even catch a buzz because there were so watered down. I know parents who want to let loose a little at night, too (I just vacationed with four sets of parents that we vacationed with and headed over to City with while Grandma stayed with the kids while they slept).

I love Disney, but they're pushing a lot of us over to Universal's CityWalk for evening fun since they don't seem to have anything for "adult fun" at Disney anymore.

Something DH and I tried last visit as an alternative to PI or City was having an upscale dinner at a resort (Jiko), then hanging out in the hotel lounge for a while, which was VERY nice, then strolling the grounds a little. Not the same as PI, but a nice evening for adults, nonetheless

FWIW, two hurricanes at O'Bryan's at City pack quite a bunch...good luck walking and forget about driving. Thank goodness for cabs

Have you consider Jellyrolls on BW? - this seems to be pretty popular.

you know I was amazed at how many little children were there doing the food/wine festavial - now if their parents were not drinking - I don't have a problem.

but in some cases the parents were definitely drinking and weren't watching their children at all....

I really feel for the kids - and it was obvious on the faces of these little children that it was NOT there idea of fun.... by little I mean 6 year old and under. the few teens I saw were enjoying it.

if you are going to drink please consider Disney baby sitting - these people do a good job and the kids would enjoy the evening as well....

Thanks for responding everyone. What gets us is that Disneyworld markets to everyone and we are starting to feel excluded. I also wish that Disney would open up 1 or 2 restaurants that are adults only. I know a lot of adults who have children but need or want a night out alone for just couples time. Is Jellyrolls a nice place to go without children? I may have to try Citywalk in the future. Unfortunately if we enjoy Citywalk we will probably end up using one of their resorts as well.

Not unfortunate at all! DH and I (no kids) must enjoy it all when we go to Orlando. We stay on site at USO so we don't have to worry about drinking and driving after CityWalk, but we drive to Disney parks during the day. It takes no time at all. We've done this for years.

We go to Orlando about four times a year and spend four-day weekends there. If, by chance, we're going to spend like a week in Orlando, then we split up our stay with a Disney resort and a USO resort...heck, last time we opted for condo right in between the two parks and scoped out the cab fares for evenings at City.

Disney gets my money during the day and I spend the bulk of my shopping $$$ there, too, but for nightlife and incredible on site hotel accommodations, that's where USO comes in for us

If this PI "reconstruction" rumor is true and DTD/PI changes things so that adult travelers without kids feel like they have a place, too, of course I'll reconsider. But for now, this setup is just perfect for us!

Jellyrolls is a dueling piano bar on the Boardwalk. It is strictly 21 and over (NO children) and $8 cover charge - it's alot of fun. Since it's not owned by Disney, they do allow smoking. I'm a non-smoker and never had a problem with the smoke - ventilation system works well.

That said, it's a "must do" for me every trip and usually more than once.

Check it out - once you go, you'll be hooked!!!

Thank you spiceycat and travelin'tigger for the heads up in regards to Jellyrolls. I will definately go there in May. I remember when V&As was touted as being for adult diners only. Sadly to say we have encountered children there as well. Before anyone thinks we do not like,enjoy, or love children that is not the case, however I do believe there is a time and place for everything.

I agree Jellyrolls is alot of fun. I myself do not enjoy PI as much anymore either. I have two little girls and I wouldnt take them there. I don't like mixing them into a crowd of people walking around drinking. But if I can manage a mommy weekend away like I will be next weekend with my sister I would enjoy a place for adults. I think it would be a nice break from the family hustle and bustle of Disney. Love my girls to death and and children have a place in my heart but sometimes mommies need a break also.

I cannot fathom why Disney decided to open PI to those under 21. I don't think it is an appropriate place for kids.

NewYawker, I recall your post and completely agree with you. I almost jumped into that one, but some were getting a bit riled up.

I LOVE love LOVE City walk. It is completely restricted to over 21 and there are so many places to go to. I don't feel guilty about drinking in front of little ones who don't understand and I still have a great time. There are many options for you to choose for places, and I highly recommend it. This next visit will be my first time not staying on property and venturing over to CityWalk - Next visit, I am definately going to stay on property again. Too many benefits not too.

Just wanted to add an additional thumbs up for Jellyrolls! DH and I (mid-twenties, no kids yet) go there at least once on every trip and we always have a great time! There is always a wide age range, but no kids since it is 21 and up. Definitely good times!

okay confused - read somewhere that PI was going to be 21 only.....

you use to get a wrist band that showed if you were allowed to drink - so you could always been your kids....

so it sounds like it is changing again....

Given the popularity of their cruise's adult venues, you'd think that Disney would make at least one signature restaurant adults-only.

Hi am a newbie here, form Jungle Cruise skipper!!! Just posted another vote for Jellyrolls, DH and I fly down to WDW every March and to be honest stopped going to PI years ago, however everytime we vaca in Disney we go to Jellyrolls at least once a trip. Love those guys!!!!

sounds like you need go only Thursday through Saturday to avoid younger people.

both the adventure's club and comedy club are not mentioned.....so my favorites are on the no kids list.

I was shocked to see kids at PI when I was there.

Monday night was fairly quiet dead at PI, so I got into a conversation with one of the bartenders. I mentioned the huge number of kids/teens outside (far outnumbering those over 21), and he told me to wait until 10:30, when Orange County deputies would begin "sweeping" the street. I'd never heard of this before, so hopefully it is a new trend to give PI a more adult feel. I don't think they were throwing teens out necesarily, just harassing them a bit.
