Adult-only trip to Aulani

We are planning a late spring trip to Oahu and leaning toward Aulani. My worry is that there will not be enough adult-only activities for us on property. For example, we like a nice relaxing dinner with bottle of wine and I think we will have to drive elsewhere in the evenings for that.

This will be our first trip to a family-oriented hotel without our kiddo now that we are empty nesters. I hope it won’t feel weird.

Any info on adult trips to Aulani before we book would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is a Four Season resort within walking distance from Aulani (right next door). They also have a few places to eat across the street--Monkeypod (but it isn't fancy dining).

We've enjoyed Assagio which is not far away by car

Also, Roys is a short walk from Aulani.

There are 4 amazing restaurants in walking distance: Mina’s Fish House, Noe Italian, Roy’s Ko Olina and Longhi’s Ko Olina (you can get reservations through open table). The four seasons is next door for drinks though you can get drinks at Aulani as well. And don’t forget to make reservations for spa treatments at the Aulani Spa-they say it’s the best water gardens and spa on Oahu. Lastly, make sure to check the Ko Olina marina for sunset cruises and diving/snorkeling tours.

We're going end of April for our 30th anniversary (just the 2 of us). This will be our 2nd trip to Aulani & our 6th trip to Hawai'i. We're not the least bit concerned about other peoples problems (ie kids). I can ignore them just fine. IIRC there's an adult pool area that I plan on taking advantage of (last time DS 17 at the time was with us so we didn't go over there). We'll be there 8 nights & I'm planning to alternate resort days with excursion days.

The worst thing I think at Aulani is that the chair hogs at the pool head out EARLY so on our resort days we'll have to strategically plan to find our spots somewhat early. We're not really planning to eat at Ama Ama or Makahiki because of their $$$ pre-fixed menus (not fans of that type of menu) but we will definitely be going to Monkey Pod & Roy's and probably Mina's Fish House and Longhi's. Our other evening meals will be casual (Ulu Cafe or some of the other local spots). Maybe we'll even go into Waikiki and go to Duke's or Hard Rock Cafe for something different than what we normally do. We enjoy dive type places as much as we do fancy schmancy so I am hoping to find something fun like that too to enjoy and hopefully recommend in the future. We've done luau's on several other trips and I think we've finally decided that we don't care if we do another watered down drink "dinner show". But if you've never done one you should probably pick one to try just so you can say you did it. For the DVC value I wouldn't hesitate to say GO!!

The only adult “ pool” is the Alohi Point hot tubs. The old adults only pool has never returned to its former glory since Aulani reopened. My kids were in there yesterday going crazy.

We're childless adults, and we love Aulani. I see plenty of couples without children.

Some additional adult activities:
  • We love the character greets. We have a blast meeting the characters and playing along in their universe. Plus, they take lovely photos.
  • I like taking takeout, buying beer or wine, and then picnicking outside in Aulani.
  • Enjoy the live music at Olelo Room.

Waaaa!!

I've been there with just my husband in 2019 and also with two other adult couples last year. 'Ama 'Ama wasn't open on our last visit but we went there twice the first time and there were no children. We also did the spa which was wonderful! The 'olelo room also seemed to be quite child free when we were there and is a lovely place to relax with a cocktail in the evening. I think you may find more people there without children than you expect. :-)

We did do some of the family-orientated activities, such as the character meals, but we certainly didn't feel out of place and weren't the only child-free ones there.

That's good to know. If I'm going to splurge on a pricey meal and cocktails, I appreciate a nice calm vibe.
