Adult hot tubs now close at 10 pm?! Anyone else upset?!

Quick rant here -

I've been cruising with DCL for 15 years. I've always enjoyed a dip in the hot tub after dinner and the show at night. Now that DCL is closing the hot tubs at 10 pm, that is no longer possible. This is very upsetting to me, as I don't enjoy bars at night. One of my, and my family's activities has always been hot tub time at night.

I'm curious if anyone else has been upset by this? If so, maybe it's time we rally and start writing DCL with our opinions as a group. When I talked to guest services about it on the Magic, they gave me nothing but ridiculous excuses as to why the hot tub hours have changed.

I'm literally a yearly customer to DCL. I have never shopped around for other cruise lines. This, is so frustrating though, as I hate to see more adult activities disappear on DCL ships.

Change the Quiet Cove hot tub hours back to closing at midnight DCL!!! Please!!!

Not only do I think they close too early, I think they open too late.

It feels like DCL has forgotten they have late diners. No kids swimming before dinner and no adult hot tub after dinner.

So true! When we've had second seating, we were often just leaving the dining room between 9:45 and 10:00PM.

Used the "Contact Us" and expressed my disappointment and stated I was hopeful they would rectify the situation. Crossing my fingers!

I haven't done a trip report yet but the one thing my wife and I made sure we promised ourselves next cruise (Feb 2016) is we will only do three nights in the MDR. It's just too time consuming, the food isn't that much better than what you can find other places throughout the ship and you miss so much.

We have a 5 year old so we did the early eating (5:30 I believe) so often times we had to leave the pool deck about 4:30 where we were having fun so wife and daughter could get showered. Seated for 5:30 then don't get out till 7 pm. Say we made the 8 pm show in the Buena Vista theater all we got "accomplished" between 4:30 and 9 pm was 1 show and dinner. Had we stayed by the pool we could have done so much more.

I think we'll do the formal night, semi formal night and the night in animators palate where the drawings "come to life" and that's about it.

This is ridiculous, Disney charges super premium but can't "splurge" to staff the pool and hot tub areas after 10pm? Really ?
My DH says the same thing about premium prices and the pools & hot tubs close early, the Cabana closes early at lunch (if you come back from an excursion or shopping when at port), and at night the quick service food closes way to early. If your at late dinner and stay up later, some people still want a late night snack. Plus, some people don't want just pizza. I know, I know….some people will say order room service, but we like to sit outside on the deck and watch movies or just get fresh air.

The 10 p.m one bothers me too. We have been on 10 cruises. Was on the June 26th double dip. I am actually more bothered by the 8 a.m opening of hot tub. For some on the cruise that 6 a.m thru 8 a.m is their only free time from the family. It is their recharge time. It used to be relaxing to sit in the hot tub and then enjoy cove cafe. Met two other people bothered by that. Oh well!

Not enough profit margin available to fund lifeguards for an extra 2 hours ?

Whilst i too am in the 10pm closing is too early, i am not sure which crew to eliminate on board to replace with trained life guards for all of the pools and splash areas?

I guess my next question would be, how late are water features (adult or otherwise) usually open on other cruise lines? I don't know the answer.

I checked our daily activities papers for our Carnival and Princess cruises. The pools are listed as closing at 10:00 pm with the hot tubs at 11:00 pm on most nights. There was an occasional night that the pool was open until midnight on Carnival cruise.

All that being said, on the Carnival cruise, regardless of what time of day/night we passed by, there were people in the hot tub (as early at 8:00 am and as late as 11:00 pm). Can't say for sure about Princess, as the hot tubs were not in our line of travel most days.

And, on other cruise lines they don't have lifeguards. I am sure that makes a difference

Like a previous poster stated, we decided that we are not going to waste our time in the MDRs. I can get the same thing in cabanas much quicker and fresher ( from our experience ). Plus it frees is up to enjoy the adult decks...

I haven't cruised yet on DCL (next month) but I'm sort of feeling the same way. Sadly I'm only on a four-nighter and there's no Cabanas on two of those nights.

The MDRs are nice but sometimes it's nice to just relax and not go through the pomp and circumstance of a MDR.

If you feel the same that you are wasting your time in the mdr's then there isn't much you can do apart from room service.
I'm not sure how you can have that opinion until you at least try them!

I guess I can't understand what isn't relaxing about being served dinner and not having to clean the dishes?! lol!

You can ask them to expedite your meal as quickly as they can, yet still get a nice meal?
What pump and circumstance?

What time do resort pools close? I guess I would assume that is the same time I would expect the ships pools to close too.

Why eliminate any crew, why not add? For a ship that probably grosses $5m per week before any extra guest spending is paying the extra 1 or $2k to staff additional hours unreasonable? And why all of a sudden do they not have enough crew to start with ?

Well, for starters, there's only so much space onboard allocated to crew. They design the ships with that in mind. How much crew space do we need in relation to public space? Since DCL has already added lifeguards (that weren't in the original plans) adding more can present problems.

As above by Princess Shmoo, where will they sleep?
You are throwing around random figures of $5m per week without taking into operating costs. How much fuel does it take to do a 7 day cruise? How much is teh labor? How much does it cost to operate a ship per week and what is the profit and loss on a cruise exactly @mlayton14 and what is an acceptable profit margin?

I have the opinion solely because I know I don't like overly long dining experiences. Just the way I am; short attention span and get antsy in restaurants, especially after the first round of food hits my stomach, especially if the restaurant is loud and crowded. I've read many, many stories of two-hour-plus MDR meals on DCL and other lines. No, this doesn't mean I don't enjoy food or don't enjoy life, I just enjoy it at a slightly faster pace. :) And yes, I am well aware of the limited dining options on DCL, especially on such a short cruise.
