I'm specifically looking at the Tusker House menus. Can a child eat from the adult buffet or are they limited to the child buffet? Ironically, my 10 year old would be perfectly happy with the child's buffet but my 8 year old would love to try some of the food listed for the adult buffet.

Relatedly, is there any way I could pay the child's price for my 10 year old because he doesn't eat that much. Or is it strictly by age?

Thanks.

Sue

When its a buffet...you can eat from the adults and the kids. The kids can select anything on the buffet (even the adult section). My son doesn't usually like the kids selection and I get his food at the adult section for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I hope this helps. Have a magical vacation.

Anyone can eat from any buffet. And no, your 10 year old will have to pay the adult price.

Some kids eat nothing but selections from the adults sections at buffets, but the flip side is that I've seen some picky adult eaters eat nothing but items from the kid's section...huge plates of chicken nuggets and macaroni & cheese. That's one of the things that makes buffets sooo popular at Disney -- something for every taste!

The adult's buffet is for everyone 10+ (really it should be called adult PRICE buffet). The child's PRICE buffet is 3-9. Any person can eat anything off the buffet. It's why we generally tend to eat at buffets with our kids.

Our kids (6 and 4) eat what we eat. No chicken nuggets, fries, grilled cheese, etc. When we have gone to TS restaurants with a pre fixe menu, the options for the kids are very limited. (Chicken nuggets, pizza, mac-n-cheese, etc.) If we want to get them "real food" we have to buy an adult's meal. So we started eating at buffets. They love Boma, Ohana, and the Biergarten. They love to eat the regular food.

It's too bad about your 10 year old, but think of it this way, you'll break even if you pay for 1 child and 1 adult anyway if 1 child is eating kid stuff and 1 is eating everything.

That is certainly the way to go! We also trained our DDs to eat what we eat from an early age (though one was definitely harder to train than the other ;)). Makes it so much easier in the long run, especially so we can take our DDs anywhere around the world without any food limitations or restrictions. Regular food appeals to our children more than the kiddie food. Plus, the kids' WDW daily diet of pizza/hot dogs/mac-n-cheese/chicken nuggets isn't exactly healthy.

But back to the OP's issue, I'm sure there's something simple at the Tusker House adult's buffet that would maybe appeal to your 10-year-old, something like roast chicken, roast potatoes or mashed potatoes, and some simple leafy greens. Or you can make it an opportunity for your 10-year-old to sample small bites of new foods. Good luck!

I sympathize. We paid about $35 for my son at Chef Mickey's to eat a slice of pizza, a couple of nuggets, corn and french fries. I have heard that if you go at a slower time and your server notices that your child only eats kid's food, they MAY change your bill and only charge you kid's price. That never happened to us in January unfortunately.

The worst was at WCC. He got a kids skillet but we still had to pay adult price. I really thought that was wrong - it wasn't a buffet and he wasn't going to eat the food on our skillet. But you live and learn.

My advice is expect to pay for him as an adult for every buffet and try not to think about it - it's the experience as much as the food!

There is no such thing as a "kids buffet" or even an "adult buffet" at Disney. They have buffets with one section lower to the floor which has on it items that kids tend to enjoy (such as pizza, hot dogs, chicken strips, mac & cheese, etc.). Any person at the buffet (including children less than age three who are free) can get anything from any part of the buffet.
