We have had Slomins for our at home alarm system for years. We are not happy with the response call back time and are thinking of switching to ADT.

Does anyone have any pros and cons for ADT? I heard their response time was quicker.

Also other than what is in the magazine ads or AARP, is there any way to get a better discount for ADT?

I appreciate your input. DIS people are always so helpful!

We only recently decided to have a security system installed for the first time. We considered ADT but decided against them after learning more about another company called Simplisafe. We recently installed their system and we are very pleased so far but have no experience with their response call back time. I'm sure you'll get all sorts of answers from folks that have ADT.

I have ADT and its fine. I've only had one alarm (which happened to be in the middle of the night two weeks ago) but they did not call at all. The alarm went off for less than a minute and I was surprised that they didn't call before I could turn it off. It was just a fault in the line, but if it were something serious, the time was longer than I would have wanted.

I feel like different settings give you a different time limit for when they will call you. I also feel like maybe I had the opportunity to change the response time when I first set up the service.

That said, I like their maintenance. I have an old system that came with the house and it's fixed for free with the contract I have whenever one breaks (which is maybe one per year).

We've had ADT for 10 years now. For the most part, everything has worked fine and been happy. Within the last year we had a couple of issues that required someone to come out to the house. I felt the response time (one to two weeks) too long. We considered changing to a different company, did a lot of research on line. There are some that are really highly rated but one in particular is a "do it yourself" security system that is based out of Washington DC. If you want a shorter response time, look into a company that's local to you. I did that too but found only two and their ratings were poor. When talking to my two local security companies, they too said they contract out just like ADT so technicians come from far distances plus they charged a lot of money to switch equipment because neither would use ADT equipment that's already installed.

So do the security companies have their own guards that show up at your house? If they see someone breaking and entering what do they do? Call the police and wait around while the police decide if they are going to send anyone to fill out a crime report?
