ADR's being canceled by mistake?

There have been a few recent posts about people getting to Disney and finding all their ADR's canceled-and not by THeM! Any thoughts on this and how do you prevent it from happening? Please don't tell me I have to call everyday and make sure they are still in the system! Can you get them to send you something in writing?

Just remember that these things are rare and random, and that people are more likely to post complains than when everything goes right. Most likely, you won't have any problems. We're only on our 3rd trip since the ADR crunch started, but we've never had a problem.

As far as calling back to confirm, there are some who think that increases the chances of problems, because every time you call the CM has to open your file, and each time the file is open is an oportunity for unintended changes/mistakes to happen. I don't call to confirm mine, but I do keep the confirmation numbers that I got when I made the ADRs and print them out to keep in our park backpack.

If you are staying onsite just go to the lobby Concierge desk and ask them to print you out a list of the ADR's you have made.

I am about to purchase the dining plan for our family of eight. I would not purchase it if we didn't have some great ADR's lined up. It would be nearly impossible during the busy holiday season to get seated at restaurants that are great with a party of eight if we did not have ADR's. I can't imagine our ADR's being canceled! I would be livid if that happened to us because this huge up-front expense of purchasing the dining plan would force us into eating at restaurants we don't like with our party split up at times that would not be nearly optimal for us. Did you notice how often it seems to have happened during the busy Thanksgiving holiday? One can't help but wonder if somehow "more important folk" or people with some kind of connections were treated to some reservations and some "little people" were dropped off. I know, I know...I am the suspicious sort! I just can't help but wonder how this happened!

That happened to me in September. I went to check in to my first ADR and it wasnt there. I had my ressie numbers with me, and the girl finally found it and then told me, as if I had forgotten "Oh, its not here bc you canceled it!" No, no, I certainly did not. I quickly got on the phone with dining only to find ALL my ressies canceled, and some other strange restraunts booked under my name. Two hours on the phone, standing in the middle of MGM crying, they found out what happened. When I called to double check my reservations before I left, when I hung up, the CM didnt close my account. Another caller called and had the same first name as me and was coming the same week as me. The CM booked all her ressies under my name. The Disney dining went through, saw that I had two dinners on every day, and cancelel all of mine bc they were made first. They must have thought I changed my mind and then forgot to cancel my old ressies. So now I have none, and this other girl will probably never be able to find hers since its under a different phone number and last name. The CM I spoke to was very helpful and personally called each restraunt and convinced them to squeeze us in. I appreciated that, but it was a HUGE hassel, and took a very very long time. Plus, we could tell we were squeezed in. We would get to the restraunt, and there was a random table in the middle of a strange place, and thats were we would be! LoL. What are you gonna do ya know?

I think this is VERY WELL SAID!!!

If you look at my signature, you will see the trips we have made. For each of those trips we have booked at least one ADR for each day we are there (usually 3-8 days). We have never had the system screw one up.

Can it happen? Sure. But as Colleen said, peole are more likely to post when it happens than when it doesn't.

I'm glad they did that for you, because you were entitled to it! Since it was Disney's mistake, they were obligated (in my opinion) to do whatever necessary to rectify. I'm really happy they DID do it though!

I never called back to confirm my ressies, I took all my confirmation #'s with me. My thinking was, no one else (TA or anything) was calling on my behalf. I called twice 2 make the ADR's (had to wait to exactly 180 for Wolfgang Puck), made everything else the first possible day. So, if anything DID happen to my ressies, it would be a Disney error, and me standing there with my confirmation #'s, well they would have to make it right!! I can happily say we had NO problems at all, everything was exactly as it should have been. I agree with the poster that I'm sure it's very rare, but if it happens to you, especially at a busy time, I can imagine that it could HUGELY impact your vacation.

Disney has begun to cancel "double booked" ADRs. Some people will book two different places, say for dinner on the same day, because they do not know where they will be that day, etc. Of course, I am NOT saying that that is always the case! Just wanted to mention that that may be the reason in some cases.

I agree that you are asking for more trouble by calling and checking on your ADR's. When I had to make a few changes last week I called dining and made my cancellations by the reservation number only....even when I asked she said she couldn't see/access my other reservations. Much safer that way I thought.

I had never called before to check my ADR'S but when I called to change one, I found out my food allergy had not been noted on my ADR. So then I called back to make sure it was noted on the others. That was my downfall....:confused3 lol.

I'm one of the people that had all of their reservations cancelled by mistake last week, all 10 days and on the DDP. Disney said my travel agent did it, she denies it. In the end it was a nightmare and I wasted a lot of time and energy trying to straighten it out. If I ever go back I'll be making my own reservations so there's no third party involved.

To their credit, Disney and my agent worked very hard to straighten everything out but the damage was done.

I also had one of my ADR's cancelled last week and it happened to be my Thanksgiving ADR. I never called to "confirm" my ADR's and did not "double book." I have been to Disney 6 times in the last couple of years, have had many ADR's and never have had a problem. I have no idea why it was cancelled but I have to admit I am a little suspicious myself that my Thanksgiving ADR was cancelled for 1900 Park Fare esp. considering I made all of my ADR's at the same time and that was the only one cancelled. I know I certainly didn't cancel it but the manager when I checked in told me no problem and got us back in. We were stuck in the corner though. However, it was better than not getting to have a Thanksgiving meal!

Haven't read ahead but here is what I do - write down the time and confirmation number and then show up at the restaurant and IF there is a problem (and actually three times I have been told that my reservation was cancelled) I just say well here is my confirmation number and I did not cancel. They are able to look back and tell when it was cancelled and I just tell them nope not cancelled by me.

1900 must have trouble with ADRS because two of my three problems have been there...and both were Easter.

I have been seated every time.

FYI from a Disney Dining rep -
When an ADR is cancelled, a name must be entered of just who cancelled it, for situations just as this. This is only the third time I've ever heard of a whole mass of reservations being cancelled all at once; and both of the other two times it was indeed a travel agent who did it. Travel agents get their customers confused and make mistakes sometimes. In order for Disney to even pull up your reservations, they'd have to have your telephone number or individual confirmation numbers. I'm not saying to those above that it absolutely was your travel agent, but that seems like the most likely the case. Note that Disney also can see the exact date and time the reservation was canceled and can provide you with that information.
At any rate, as long as you have confirmation numbers you are fine. I also suggest, as someone mentioned above, to either have Guest Services in your resort or Guest Relations in one of the parks to print out your dining itinerary before you begin the bulk of your trip. If you get to a restaurant and find that - oh my goodness - the reservation is GONE and you have a confirmation number to prove it, most restaurants will do their very best to accommodate you.

We had LeCellier cancelled in October, (did not bring my conf. # to the park - I had a printout from concierge when I checked in), but they did squeeze us in and asked us why we had made another at 6:30 that evening. (Apparently someone with my name (but different phone no. of course) had made a ressie and mine was cancelled as it appeared to be a double booking - they should have looked at the phone no. before cancelling it). I will have all my #s with me from now on at each meal. This was the first time in 24 trips this had happened.

The Dining rep who canceled it should have pulled by phone number and not by name. Remember that when it is canceled, WHO canceled it (i.e. the Disney Dining Rep) is displayed so that person can be contacted to see if a mistake was indeed made.

Remember, when in doubt, confirmation # > ALL. And don't leave it at the room!!

I agree with Vemnox. Take your confirmation numbers with you! I made my own ADR's, I did not have a travel agent. The manager who told me that my ADR had been cancelled said that the cm that made my ADR had cancelled it?:confused3 It doesn't matter though because as it's been said, just have your ADR # with you and they should be able to get you in.

The CM on the dining line was able to tell me that the person who canceled my ADR's was the same person that the new ADR's were made under, on my phone number, but I had no idea who she was.

I don't know how that could really have happened, sounds like somebody on the dining line might have been covering for someone else.

You know what would be a good fix for this? A simple 4 digit pin number created by the guest to make and cancel adr's. This pin number would be required each time so someone with the same name would have to have a matching pin number to add or cancel adr's

This would prevent a lot of this I think
