So I have dining reservations at 6:20 pm at chef mickey's. My in laws flight lands at 4 pm. Now we, dh, my girls, me will already be checked in at our resort, old key west, and will have spent they day at AK.

So we will already have our KTTW cards with dining plan, for the six of us( all in same villa on same reservation).

What are the odds the in laws will be able to get to the Contemporary by 6:20? Also could they just board the ME to contemporary if the time seemed to be close.

If they can't take the ME to the contemporary how do the get there from OKW.

I wish their flight was earlier, but no one seemed to care but me :)

They can only take Magical Express to their own resort, nowhere else.

The only way they could really have a chance on making it would be taking a cab from OKW but they would need to really push it to make it most likely. We've made a 2 hour turn around from DME to a park but we are pros at MCO :0 Really the only way from OKW to make it would be a cab. It would probably be right around $20 including a few $ for tip. Taking the bus then monorail would just take too long.

They might make it. They might not. We stayed at the POP on one trip, and took only moments to check in at our resort, then turned around and headed for the bus. We walked into the Magic Kingdom right at 3 hours after landing at MCO.

they probably will not be able to make a 6:20 reservation to contemporary if the plane lands at 4. You have to give time to taxi in, then unload the plane, not to mention how long they may or may not have to wait on a ME bus. Then, once at OKW they will have to board a bus to a park or downtown disney, which could be another 20 min. wait if a bus just pulled out. Once at the park or DTD they would then have to board another bus to get to Contemporary. Personally, they would be better off to just take a cab and go to Contemporary, of course paying the cab fee. If they are going to try to take ME then I suggest they go straight to the Magic Kingdom bus and head to that park, where they can then hop the monorail to Contemporary, or even walk if they have to. I still don't think it is possible for them to make the reservation by taking ME. Sorry.

The odds are about 30% taking Magical Express.

On average, one out of every four planes arrives more than 15 minutes late. This in turn significantly affects the odds.

I would take a taxi from MCO to the CR. That avoids all complications. Yeah, they don't get to take ME, but their luggage will still be delivered.

That was going to be my suggestion skip taking the bus and just head right to CR. If as PPs have said you get any delay in leaving MCO then it would take longer than you can think.

Thanks guys for all your help.

So their luggage would still make it to OKW even if they just took a taxi from MCO to Contemp?

THanks ;D

I agree, have them take a cab from MCO....it would be worth it.

Yep--their luggage will still get there without them being on the bus. Summer 2008, we had a party of seven, and my father, husband, and sister picked up the rental car while we all went on to AKL on the Magical Express. They didn't have to fool with luggage (and did the grocery shopping:cool1:) and we called for everyone's luggage as soon as we arrived and got settled in. As long as they use the ME luggage tags, and don't mind bringing their carryons to your dinner (they'll store those at the front desk for them too btw) have them catch a cab!

Disney's Magical Express is not a luggage service. It's against their policy to do this.

Whether you do it or not doesn't matter to me but consider this.

If they do not check into Magical Express and their luggage is lost/misplaced, how do you expect Disney to know to look for it?

Ahh, but you had some of your family riding the ME bus. The OP would not have anyone riding the bus. That is a big difference!

:thumbsup2 What SeashoreCM said!

Their best odds would be to take a taxi or towncar directly from the airport. They could also get a rental car at one of the car places that's in the terminal. At MCO, that's most of them.

Otherwise, I would not worry about it too much. Delays happen. If they don't make it, they could still almost certainly use the dining credits at Olivia's that night. Or somewhere along the trip - they could have a nice TS breakfast or something later inthe trip. There's almost always availability at some place for an extra TS meal.

Off the top of my head - if they end up missing the meal - they could almost certainly get a last minute table for lunch in the MK at the Plaza - on a day whenthe rest of the family is using QS credits for lunch. (OR - they could maybe have adinner at a doulbe creidt place by themselves one evening!)

So it would not be a disaster.

If you really want another option, plan on having a QS dinner with them when they arrive (Maybe try Olivias as a walk-in that night). Later in your vacation either have a deluxe double credit dinner - or have two sit dwon meals in one day - OR - plan a sit down BREAKFAST on your final day.

How much would a cab from the airport cost? If it is worth it to the OP then by all means do that. But it is a 30 min+ ride. I have to think that would be quite expensive just to make a dinner reservation. I would try to move the ADR back.

I'm going to move this to our transportation board in case the folks over there have additional input.

Click on the ad-link at the top of the screen to get an idea of what a towncar would cost. A taxi is comparable to a town car. I think the rate is about $60 one way.

Even if you move the ADR to a later time that night, there are still no guarantees. If their flight is delayed, odds are pretty good the delay will be at least half an hour. Delays on monring flights tend to be lesser. As the day progresses, and a plane can't make it's schedule - then the delays tend to build. Considering this is a 4pm flight, the odds are fairly good of some delay. Also, it is pretty common in summer months for Orlando and points south to get afternoon thunderstorms.

Beyond that, ME takes more time than a taxi. Not only do you have to wait for the bus to get fairly full, but they typically make several stops. The CR bus often stops first at WL,Poly, GF and LAST is CR. If you are the first sop, thent he drive is 30min. If your hotel is the fourth stop, then that adds, I'd say - at least another half hour to your ME time.

I dunno. If making that dinner is important, then it may well be worth $60. That $60 will in effect - gain this family about two hours of vaction time. (extra 30+min on ME, 40+min to get from OKW to MK, 15min to walk from MK to CR) Most of the time, my family pays about $25 per waking hour to be at WDW. the only trouble - as has been pointed out is that they would have to bring their luggage to dinner.

If the dinner is not very important - then yeah, I'd just make alternative plans, or keep the current plan, but realize it likely won't happen and create a back up as needed.

Well...if you are the only one concerned, stop worrying about it. Leave it up to them to decide what they want to do. Explain the situation. TEll them that if they take DME, it will be under 90 mins from gate to resort. If they land at 4pm, they should be at the gate by 4:15ish, which gets them to OKW at about 5:30ish. They can then take a bus to MK, and then walk over to CR and CM's for dinner. They 'may' make it in time. But, it is going to be ridiculously close. They may decide that dinner isn't that big a deal and decide to miss it. Or they may decide it is a big enough deal that they want to spend the money on a car service.

Can you use DME for the luggage if you don't ride the bus? Sure. But, if a bag goes missing, DME isn't going to be looking for it. When you checkin for DME they ask you how many bags you checked. That way, they know how many to look for. You don't checkin, they have no idea.

Thanks all. I appreciate your expert advice. I think I will just explain to them that they most likely they won't make it. If they don't they can just pop into Olivia's and eat if they want.

If they don't and we have extra credits it's no big deal since we have an OOP meal later.

Thanks again :)
