My son has a peanut / tree nut allergy. I had this information indicated on my ADRs. My question is, do you call the restaurants directly before your arrival to inform them of your food allergy? If yes, how far in advance do you call the restaurant?

Thanks

You do not *have* to call if you have it noted on the ADR. You can tell the CM when you check in and your server, etc. They'll send the chef to your table.

I don't always call if I know the restaurant well. If your child is picky about what they will eat it is good to call. When my son was really young and expected a hot dog at every restaurant I called to make sure they'd have one at places that didn't normally serve them. Also he wouldn't eat ice cream back then and that was the only safe dessert some places would have for him. I'd call to arrange a different dessert (there was also a safe brownie so I'd ask them to send one over). It doesn't work well to have everyone eating great desserts off the buffet and your PA child sitting there with some tofutti they don't like!;) Buffet desserts were the biggest problem for us. At sit-down restaurants that were not buffets we generally do not order dessert.

So dessert at the buffets was (and is) our biggest problem with the peanut allergy. Most entree items (pasta, rice, veggies, etc.) they can make for you right away.
