Do I have to have a reservation at a WDW resort to book my ADRs at 180 days? We are coming up on our 180 day mark and I want to make some reservations, but I haven't decided on a resort.

Also, where would be a good place to eat on Thanksgiving? We'd prefer buffet or family style.

No, you don't have to have a resort before you make ADR's. It'll be just like you're going for a day or so, or staying off property.

As for Thanksgiving restaurant ideas...
Ohana is family style.
Cape May is a seafood buffett but they have a special Thanksgiving menu I believe.

You only need a ressie in order to be able to book the 180+10. With no ressie number you will just have to call each day to book additional ADR's during your stay.

You cannot book an ADR beyond the 180 mark without a resort reservations. But you can book one at the 180 mark.
Acouple good buffetts are Tral's End, Chef Mickey's, Cryatal Palace, Boma's to name a few.
