We're making 90-day ADRs in a couple weeks for a December visit. There are four of us booked, though we may be adding on a fifth to the trip, but not until after we make our ADRs. Should we ADR for 4 or 5 people? If we reserve for 4, can we add one more to our existing ADR? If we reserve for 5, and we only have 4, will they seat us on our ADR with only 4 of us?

If you book for 4 and end up with 5, you will have to rebook all your ADRs for 5 people and that means cancel the old ones and completely rebook them. There's no guarantee that the restaurant will be able to seat the 5th person if you just show up with them. Especially since a party of 5 would have to move up from a 4 top table to a table that fits 5, or to a 6 top.

You are probably better off booking for 5 and then showing up with 4 if you need to.

I would make them for 5. you could remove one person later. removing one person is easier than adding when you call back to modify. Sometimes the cast members are helpful and sometimes not. Last year one of our party wasn't feeling well (Mission Spaced out) on the night we went to the Cape May café. The Mgr said no problem and seated us at a table for 4.

We just returned from a trip where we had booked all of our ADR's for 8 people. Unfortunately, one person ended up not being able to come. We were told just to go to each reservation and tell them at that time that we had 7. We did so and never had any problems whatsoever.
