ADR in HS day

I didn’t get any responses on the restaurants board so thought I’d try cross-posting here (maybe the correct board for this anyway!).

We have an ADR for 11:45 for Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast on our planned HS day in early June. I was thinking this would work out great- get there before RD to try for a boarding group, then go over for brunch. But now I’m rethinking- if we’re able to get a boarding group, is leaving for an ADR going to be a problem? I know you CAN leave, but what’s the chances we’ll get called and it will interfere with our meal? We’re just two adults, so we could cut short some character time if needed. How long does it take to get there from HS? Would you change plans?

I don't know the exact probability, but I assume it's pretty small that your BG directly interferes with your ADR. It might, but you'll either have to take that chance, or just not have an ADR on the day you plan to try for a BG.

We had two ADRs on our HS days (two days) and neither interfered w/timing, though we did have a 2 hour call back on both days (this was last month). We normally do QS mobile-ordering, but the ADRs were a welcome relief from the crowds. Enjoy!

For fastpasses, I believe that a cast member can still let you in to a ride after your window if you can explain that you had a meal run long or you got stuck in a line for another ride. I have to imagine that the same is true for boarding groups if it happened to get called while you were at your meal (or at the restaurant if your boarding group got called and you were stuck in the ride/line at the time of your ADR).

Maybe you should ask yourself how much stress this schedule may cause for you. It would stress me. It would not stress others at all.

I see people mention that you don't need 2 hours to eat. I agree. But, you may need two hours to:

a) be seated at Bon Voyage (I've been twice and was seated late both times, but that could be bad luck)
b) be served your meal, eat it, pay for it -- you may need to skip characters, are you willing to do so?
c) get transportation back to DHS
d) walk to bag check, get through bag check, tapstiles and walk to ride

Odds are good that your boarding group won't be at 11:45am, the exact time of your ADR, but if it is...will it stress you out so much that it will wreck your meal? And do you care if that happens?

Because I know that I would be so worried about arriving on time that it would wreck my meal, I wouldn't plan this way. I understand that many people do plan ADRs outside the park and it works out fine.

Good points to think about here! We couldn’t care less about Star Wars, we’d be riding more because of the hype. I don’t think our disappointment would be super high.

Anyone have a reasonable guess on travel time to/from HS from Trattoria?

This is exactly why I scheduled this, thought it would make a good break not too far away!

Once you're notified that your BG is boarding, you have 2 hours to use the BG. Unless you're a veeerrrryyy slow eater, you'll be fine.
I’ve seen some conflicting info about 2 hour vs 1 hour return times this week. We’ll definitely need to monitor up until June- who knows, the procedure could be totally different by then!

The 1 hour return times are typically first thing in the morning and right before park close when they happen. There are reports that even if you do get a 1 hour return, they will honor 2.

If you get called at a really inconvenient time (or it looks like you will) like 15 mins before your ADR go to aGET tent. They can cancel your ADR without the fee or possibly help you in other ways. Disney understands that BGs are out of cycle with everything else and will try to help you. I wouldn’t stress it.

This is exactly our plan too, although we're planning a 10:45am brunch there. I'm guessing they will continue to open at 8am, and figure if we arrive at 7:30, by 10:30am, we will have had enough of the crowds to need a break :rolleyes2

If our boarding group gets called right before our ADR, we're planning on asking GET to help us move it back a little or cancel it. If our boarding group gets called while we're eating, we should have enough time. I also figure that we can always head to the ADR 15-20 minutes early, if it looks like that will help.

I'm thinking it will probably take 20-30 minutes to get back and forth. It's only 20 minutes if you walk the whole way from HS; however, it's more relaxing to either grab a boat (20 minutes IF the boats there), or use the skyliner between HS and Epcot with a transfer at CB (20 min) and walk the 5 minutes from Epcot. I figure that we'll decide the day of, depending how the boarding group progress is going.
