ADR for buffet breakfast at AKL? really?

My wife and I were last at Disney World on our honeymoon 10 yrs ago and now we are going back the first week of June. We were just going to do the cruise and a couple days at DW but the 4 days + 3 days free suckered us in.

We got setup late and are working out the dining now. My wife has food allergies so we are doing the deluxe plan becuase we have much better luck with the food at sit down (I hope I made the right choice on dining plan)

Anyway my question is this... do we really need ADR just to eat at the AKL buffet for breakfast??? (I think its the Boma - this resort didn't exist last time we were there.. AK just opened, so we wanted to stay in that one this time.) We are working out which dining we want when and the person from disney dining said we'd need reservations for breakfast. When I went before, so long as it wasn't a character breakfast, no reservations were needed.

I kinda like my freedom of getting up "whenever", quickly hitting the buffet and then heading to the park. One of the joys of not having kids. That worked fine on the honeymoon 10 yrs ago and our hotel was completely booked at the time (beach club).

Yeah the restaurant is Boma. I would make an ADR just to be safe, Boma is popular.

Good point... we could make the reservation but then cancel the night before if we decided we wanted to sleep in. Would you agree given the food allergies, the deluxe dining plan, and that we are staying in the AKL that the boma buffet is our best "quick breakfast" option before heading out to the parks? We will try to see if we can get a reservation for the tusker character breakfast one of the mornings.

Brings back memories - when I planned the honeymoon (which I kept a surprise until just before the wedding) 10 yrs ago it was discussions in the disney newsgroup - there weren't all these forums Its going to be so fun having not been there for 10 yrs. Hmm IDK about the allergies. Go to allears.net and check out the menus that way you can see what each restaurant serves, and see which restaurant would be best for you wife.

You guys are going to have a blast. I'm excited for you both. When ae you going? We are staying at AKV in May. It will be our first time there. We can't wait.

First Off Welcome, this is a great place to be.

If you plan your ADR's ahead of time, you can tell Disney Dining while you are on the phone of the food allergies. They will make a note of it, when you check in for your ADR's remind them of the food allergies. Normally, they will have someone come out and speak to you about the allergies and try to accomodate you for the allergies.

The Deluxe Dining plan will give you alot,I mean alot of food. Given the allergies and the extra care Dining will offer that may be your best choice. You could call Disney Dining and ask about the counter service areas and see if they can accomodate allergies. But I think you may be better off with the Deluxe DP.

Yes ADR's are pretty much needed now. You could check with Conceriege at your hotel the night before and make your ADR's for the next day, but you would have to be flexible and willing to take what was available.

You can start making your ADR's 90 days out. Since you are staying on property you can make up to 10 days of ADR's at the 90 day mark.

We love Boma and usually do a ressie right before 8am and the place is deadville...but when we go 10am or later the place is packed

If you want to go without an ADR, you can always try to walk up at Boma and get a table. If one is not available, you can head over to the Mara (the CS restaurant at AKL) and get breakfast there. It won't be as good as Boma, but you won't need an ADR for the Mara either!

I would make an ADR to be safe. If you do not mind waiting around the resort, you can always play it that way as well. As a PP stated, the earlier the better without an ADR there

I've had a great experience eating at Boma for dinner w/ food allergies. The chef came out and told me what I could have from the buffet and he also prepared a special salmon dish in the kitchen (without sauce) and brought me that with fufu and soup (all from the back so no risk of cross contamination).

As another poster mentioned, make sure to list that your wife has food allergies on the ADR and when you arrive at the restaurant. Disney is really great about accomodating.

Also, if you contact Disney in advance, they will send you lists of all the safe snack items in the park and each counter service restaurant has a book containing all of the ingredients in each item. Ask to speak with a manager and they will bring out the book, go over everything that is safe, and oversee that your meal is prepared without risk of contamination.

Thanks everyone. Yeah I am worried that the deluxe dining plan was too much food but I have to remind myself just becuase I CAN have tons o food doesn't mean I need to. We went with the plan so that we could pick to eat whatever we want from the menu rather than agonizing over if its worth the cost to get the expensive dish etc so that it would be sort of stress free dining.

We will be in DisneyWorld from May 30 through June 6 (with the cruise being the week before that). That buy 4 days get 3 free was an awesome deal. I know, we are already "late" for ADR. Wish my wife luck she is calling in today to see what we can get. We booked cinderella castle when we bought the package deal since that was a special part of our honeymoon (not the food but the staff was awesome and its just something you have to do) but we don't have any other ADRs yet. Hopefully, other than Le Cellier, we are able to get them. We are flexible and don't mind eating dinner late so that should help.
