I had made some ADR's for 4, but for some days only 3 of us might show up, will I be charged a cancellation fee?

My mom is coming with us and she sorta lives her life by the day, she may or may not want to attend dinners.

From my understanding, you will only be charged the cancellation fee if no one shows up. There wasn't an issue when we went to 'Ohana for dinner with 3 people when it was supposed to be 4. Hopefully this answer helps!

No problem at all and no cancellations. There's only a slim chance that my husband can come on our next trip but I have him on all reservations. It's much easier to say "one less adult" rather than "oh I need one more seat" (but a party of 3 turning into 4 isn't too bad).

Like everyone has said, no problem. Which is especially good because some places are not solo or odd-number friendly in the system so you have to round up by one.

The only ADRs I am not positive about are the ones connected to a show such as the Disney on Broadway concert series. I was kinda wanting to try Akershus and there was an ADR for it for 2, but I didn't want to take the chance on being charged in that case for the person that never was. So I'm going with Rose and Crown for that one.

Conversely, what if you make an adr for 4, but 5 show up? Any thoughts on if this would be accommodated?

Depends on the restaurant, and how busy they are. I had an additional family member once the day of the reservation, I called to see if we could add them, and I couldn't add them to the reservation, but they assured me it wouldn't be a problem at the restaurant. We ended up waiting a few minutes more than we would have otherwise I think, but we got seated.
I wouldn't try it at a place that is in high demand.

Make the reservations for the maximum number of people who might be showing up. Be sure to include infants and even those who might just sit at the table and not eat.

Showing up at the restaurant with extra people not on the reservation could be a problem. It will depend on the restaurant and how busy it is when you arrive, as to whether the castmembers can accommodate or not. You might be fine and all be seated, you might have to wait longer or the restaurant might seat only the number of people on your reservation so you'll have to decide among yourselves who is going to eat elsewhere. If you all decide to leave you might be charged the no show penalty. As much as possible the restaurant will try to seat everyone, but at the more popular venues it might not be possible because they are already fully booked and the kitchen is working at capacity.

This! The "make it for 4 but 5 show up" would be even more difficult than "make it for 3 but 4 show up" because you're jumping table sizes from a 4-top to a 6-top with the first scenario. There is still no guarantee that the 4th would be accommodated in the second because of occupancy guidelines, but that wouldn't change the table size.

Thanks so much! I will assume our whole group will show up to meals and make them for everyone. Easier to adjust down than up it sounds like.

My sister and her husband were here and they made reservations not knowing what my day off would be so they made it for just two. I ended up with that day off and we were together so we decided just to see what happens. Worse case I'll go eat at a quick service while they eat. It took a few more minutes to get a table but that was all.
