ADR Cancellation timing

I know in the past you were able to cancel a reservation before midnight the day prior. Is this still the case by midnight? Or does it actually have to be a full 24hrs before the reservation time? I have a breakfast reservation I'm worried the family may or may not be up for and won't know how we feel until the night before.

I've cancelled same day a few times and never been charged. They usually ask the reason, and as long as you're not abusing the system they're pretty flexible.

In general the rule is midnight the night before.
I also have on occasion cancelled the day of with a good reason when I called.
Otherwise, modify the ADR to a future date, then cancel.

I had to cancel the Flying Fish same day once (only time I've ever cancelled same day). I can't remember what happened (I was in the throes of early pregnancy and my brain was mush), but I do remember that we did have a really good reason - and they were completely chill about it. They waived the charge and were very polite.

People cancel ADRs all the time but sometimes you can have luck the day before or even day of.

Regarding cancelling same day, I had an ADR at Epcot that I decided not to use. The reservation time was about 45 minutes from then, and I was able to change the reservation to another day in the MDE app and then cancel it without penalty. I checked availability about 10 minutes later out of curiosity and the original ADR time did not show up so someone may have grabbed it!
