ADR and dining plan question

We are going to Disney the first week of December. Friends of ours are going to be there the same week and we have an ADR for the Playhouse Disney lunch on Friday. I'm wondering how it works with 2 parties using the dining plan though? Do we just need to tell the server that we'll be using dining credits from 2 different parties? We have 6 in our party (4 adults 2 kids) and our friends have 5 (3 adults 2 kids). Is it just separated into 2 "checks" then? This whole dining plan thing has me so confused!

My {limited to one time} experience with the Dining Plan showed me that if you clearly state your intentions to your server at the beginning, they rarely have any objections to what you can do.

Hi, these 4 adults and those 2 kids are on (point to dad/mom) one plan, these 3 adults and those 2 kids are on another plan (point to dad/mom). We plan to pay OOP for x number of dinners and the rest will be on the DDP, if that is all right.
