ADR adjustments

Hello Everyone,

I am going to WDW over the holiday season and made my dining reservations at the 180 day mark. There were originally 3 adults travelling but My brother has now decided to join us and so I adjusted most of the dining reservations for 4 adults. However, there are two reservations that will no allow me to adjust as there is no availability, I am going to keep checking every day to see if anything comes available but if I am unable to get a ressie for 4 adults is it worth still keeping the original reservation for 3 and turning up with 4 people and asking if there is anything they can do? Anyone had this issue before? I would be interested to know your opinions.

Thanks in advance :)

If you are prepared to be turned away and pay the $10 no show for 3 people, or have your 4th need to go elsewhere while 3 dine, sure, turn up.

During a busy season, it can be hard to accommodate extras. Many restaurants do have 3-top tables.

I don't know if this will work but since there's no table that seats only 3, see if you can book ADR for 1 person closest time to your ADR and when you get there, ask if you can seat together.

When I was thinking of dining alone, it was easy to find table for one.

Has anyone tried this?

EDIT: Just re-read _auroraborealis_ thread. Who has table that seats only 3?

@howedaniel, which 2 restaurants are you trying to change ADR? Maybe someone can help you to let you know if these restaurants has 3 seat tables?

What restaurants are they? If BOG, I am not aware of any three tops in the place. Just even numbers.

Right, but BOG breakfast and lunch don't book according to table size. They book based on total restaurant capacity.

The same is true at some restaurants like Teppan Edo and Biergarten, where parties will be placed together at the 8-tops.

I know H&V and I think it's 50sPT have tables that effectively seat 3, and I think there are others. Certain round tables are rated for 2 or 3, but not 4.

Right, which is why I asked which restaurants he was having trouble with. Perhaps our collective knowledge can assist him in deciding wether or not he wants to chance it.

Thanks for the responses so far, the two I am having trouble with is ohana and cinderella royal table. I think some restaurants do have specific tables for 3 people, we have sat at tables for 3 before they tend to be pushed up against the wall.

We've had a three-top at Ohana...up against the windows. That might be what you've been assigned there.

Ohana is tough, because it's so popular and they book it to the gills and frankly overbook it (which is why everyone is always seated late; they don't account for "average time at table" adequately).

Same for us on previous visits, which is why I am a little worried. I am going to keep looking on the disney site to see if a ADR comes available for 4 people, if it doesn't we will go and see if they can accommodate us, the worst that will happen is our additional party member can go eat at captain cooks (which he loves anyway).

I would be interested to know if anyone has ever had any luck getting an extra member of their party into a restaurant on an ADR for less people?

Oh sure, it happens all the time. However, it always depends on how busy the restaurant is, and what table setups are available. Given that you said that you were going during the holiday season, it might be a stretch. My advice is to go in expecting to only get 3 in (ie, have a backup plan for your 4th), and hope for the 4th. Be polite when asking at the podium, and you may get some magic.

Above all else, keep checking as you get closer for a reservation for 4.

I will just be sure to manage my expectations...I will keep checking in case something comes up.

If searching ohana search a 2 person and show up with 3 person Reservation and a 2 person reservation and ask to combine them as just 4 people. We had to do this in May of this year and it worked for us the times were about 30 minutes apart but we all showed up at the time for the first one and were seated together. Someone told me when I was struggling with it they do not do 1 person ADR's (I don't know this for a fact) but I easily found a 2 person by using the Touring Plans ADR finder.

I have had luck but this was years ago. I am not willing to test those waters now.

You are traveling during the busy season and you are trying to add a person to two of the most difficult restaurants I know of, so I think that in order to manage your expectations, you should expect that your additional person will be turned away. Keep checking, but if you cannot find a table for two, or an ADR that will accommodate your party I would have a backup plan. ,

Thanks, this is useful information :)

I went during free dining last year and my travel agent booked all our table service meals. I noticed that 2 of them (Akershus and 1 other) were booked for only 2 instead of 3, she said Disney dining made the errors. We just showed up and all 3 of us were seated. I had no idea it was such a big deal and I'm really glad it worked out for us after reading this thread!

I wouldn't bother. I know you picked those places for a reason, but I couldn't stand thinking about trying to get your brother in (and my brother is the same way! Last minute charlie - LOL!). I would just cancel, find two other places, and have no worries!

I've been going thru this same thing. There were 7 of us going to the Candlelight Processional Lunch Package but then my brother's girlfriend decided she was going to tag along on the trip. I've been trying for the past 2 months to get any of the Candlelight packages for 8 for our EPCOT day and haven't had any luck. I finally called Disney Dining yesterday and had them make a reservation for 2 and then change our reservation to 6 instead of 7. I'm hoping that we can at least sit near each other. This is for Garden Grill...

That is a nightmare...luckily I was able to get the candlelight processional for the extra person in our party but I had to move park days around. I hope that it works out for you and your party when you get there. We love Garden grill, we are trying the breakfast when we go this time :)
