Adoption gift/party help

It's too long and complicated a story to share but the end result will be the adoption of a 30 year old. This has been a healing process for those involved. I have been asked by the adoptive mother for ideas for a meaningful celebration of this event and a gift that she might give her 30 year old daughter.

I immediatly thought of you guys. Budget is a factor but I would appreciate any and all ideas for a celebration and gift.

A jewelry or memory box with an engraving on it.

A locket engraved withing.

I don't have an good ideas for a celebration. A lot of people that are involved with a church have a church celebration.

I think a special piece of jewelry- perhaps with both their birthstones on it or engraved, or matching ones for mom/daughter? would be nice.'

Or - gift certificate for a photographer for them to get a nice portrait together. Could be wrapped with a pretty frame.

If the mother has a family heirloom - a peice of jewelry from her mother or grandmother, or a family Bible, a piece of furniture (in my father's family - there is an old cookie jar) - this might be a good time to gift that. It would be more meaningful than anything purchased.

For a party, I think a champagne tea might be nice - one cake, snack foods including cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off, cookies, veggies & dip, and other things that they like, as well as champagne.

Once everyone has arrived and settled in, there should be a champagne toast, and then if there is a presentation (slide show, special gift, whatever) it could happen then as well. The they should do the cake cutting and hand out cake and invite everyone to enjoy the food and have tea (best if in a teapot as well, but not neccessary).

I don't have any ideas for the gift itself, unfortunately. I agree that something like a family heirloom would mean a whole lot or something meant to become a family heirloom, if a family heirloom is not available (i.e. jewelry or something).

How about a mother and daughter necklace, ring or pin? Could also do the family picture.
A small family vacation or even a dinner introducing her to the family and friends.

I like the idea of mother and daughter jewelry. They have necklaces that split apart and each person wears a peice.

i like the idea of getting family pics taken. either some place affordable, or have a friend or family member take tons of pics, and get one framed for one or both. not sure if they are living in the same home or not.

I was going to suggest this too. I think a ring with both of their birthstones on it would be very nice.

Hi There,
My two sons are adoptive. I got them when they were 1& 2 years old. I started a book where I could write alittle about an event and they would have the picture with it. I still continue doing this and my boys are 21&22 years old now and still enjoy looking at it. A tea with finger sandwichs sound like a great idea.
