Hi everyone,

A friend of mine and her DH are finally adopting their 2 boys in a couple weeks. They've been fostering them for a year and a half and I'm sure many of you know the struggles they've gone through, often thinking the boys would be taken away from them.

I'm making cookies for the adoption day party but I also want to get them a family gift. I have a couple ideas in mind, an engraveable picture frame for example. But I know many of you have been in this situation and would love to know your ideas on a nice adoption day gift. We aren't best friends and I don't want it to be costly (plus I need it in 2 weeks), but I want it to be nice. I'm honestly so thrilled for them!

In this type of situation (my BIL and SIL adopted a baby), we got them a $50gift certificate to a photography studio.

that mya be more than your budget - but keep in mind, many stores (Wlamart, JCpenneys, Sears, Target, etc) have very, very reasonably priced studios.

How old are the boys?

If you're a friend, but not a super close friend, then I don't know that I'd do something really sentimental like an engraved picture frame. Instead, I'd probably do something fun that they can do together -- tickets to the zoo, or the local movie theater, or a board game, or gift basket with a DVD, some candy and some microwave popcorn.

They are 18 months and almost 4 years old.

My mom suggested one of those "sets" they have this time of year with popcorn and popcorn bowls or ice cream bowls, toppings, etc.

the things that meant to most to me was "its a boy balloon" since I never had a baby. That is something most new moms get. I saved it in his life book.
I also got a picture frame with his new name on it which I love.

Congrats to them :lovestruc

when I was adopted we called it our Gotcha Day.
I like the idea of a gift card to a fun place.. celelbrating becoming/being a family.

One of our most cherished possessions is a picture frame that says "Joy" on it. That is what we felt in our hearts when our kids were finally ours.

In it, my friend put a picture of us all hugging when we saw our kids again after 2 months of being apart because they were in Russia and we were in PA. The picture definitely matches the frame.
