adoption dinner

We are fostering a 16 yr old and would like to officially ask her if we can adopt her while we at in Disney. I am thinking at dinner one night. Any ideas??

depending your and her style any place in disney would be good...but my choice would be the Royal Table. Schedule dinner when you can watch the fireworks...request a table by the window...it's magical! Then you can ask her to officially be "your princess."
I'd get an engraved locket/jewelry with your names or something. Maybe clue in the staff and ask them to bring it out with one of those little chocolate crowns they use for the kids' make-your-own sundae.
(We celebrated our oldest's 17th birthday day and she LOVED it. The Fairy Godmother called her up during the show and made a production of it. Had a very little boy and teenaged boy there as her princes. very cute. ...guess you could do that too, if she know she will be thrilled. )

Maybe Coral Reef, don't know if they still have the divers, you could "ask" her that way. She could officially join you two in the shark tank of life!

Congratulations on the adoption! If you do it at a dinner then a quiet restaurant without a lot of background noise would be my choice, so not Whispering Canyon or Ohana with all the kids' games going on.

Have you been to afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian? It's a beautiful, elegant and quiet atmosphere--if you think it's the kind of place your 16 yr old would like then that would be a possible choice.

I would want to go somewhere fairly quiet and/or low-key - so NOT 'Ohana or Chef Mickey's!

What kind of food does she like? Does she have any special interests you could choose something based on? Like Coral Reef for someone who loves the ocean, or Sanaa for animal lover with more exotic tastes in food.

I would say either California Grill or Narcoossees. Both restaurants dim the lights and pipe in the music for WISHES, the MK fireworks which can be seen from the restaurants. They are both signature dining restaurants and more adult than some of the others. Make sure you tell whatever restaurant you choose what you are doing. If it is a signature restaurant they will most likely prepare and present something special for dessert!

Wherever you do choose, it will be a magical night. Congratulations on expanding your family!

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest the 50s Prime Time Cafe
To me it just screams family. The servers are you're "family." (aunt, mom, sister...) It's my three children's favorite place in the World and they are 26, 20 and 14. I think it could be an awesome celebration.

I was excited about the thought of doing this at Disney before I even posted here but now I am even more excited. She has never been to Disney so the whole trip will be very exciting. I am going to talk with my husband tonight and run several of your ideas by him and see what we feel will be the best fit for all of us. Thanks for all the great ideas!

I second the suggestion for Cinderella's Royal Table. If this is her first Disney trip, then nothing compares to being inside the castle.

I'm thinking on a different track here. What about 50's Prime Time? I think I would go here and use this as an opportunity to talk and laugh about family and how much fun it can be. Then use this as a springboard to ask her to be a permanent member of your family.

Nowhere is "homier" than 50's Prime Time.

1) You CANNOT see fireworks from inside CRT.
2) Your idea of a special meal can go two ways.
. . . somewhere fun and funny
. . . somewhere fancy and exclusive
3) I think either would befit the situation.
4) I would go with the later for the "grown-up" flavor.
5) In that light, I would recommend dinner at Victoria and Albert's
. . . yes, expensive, but a one-of-a-kind experience
. . . you and her all dressed up formally
. . . they could make it really special for you and her
. . . you get pampered there normally
. . . but, they can go even further

You have been given good advice on restaurants already, my advice is "be flexible". Being at Disney provides many "perfect moments" when you might just feel the time is right and it might not be at dinner or in any restaurant. So go ahead and plan the dinner but if something magical feels right before the dinner go for it! Maybe you and DH could have a signal or code word ready incase you feel the moment?

I think this is great! Especially for a teen. It's not as stuffy or serious (even though it's a serious event). Fun loving!

I don't have any advice on restaurants but I wanted to say congrats! My two kiddos are adopted and they are my biggest blessings. I can't imagine life without them. Please come back on after your trip and let us know how it went!

Just a thought and please ignore me if its too intrusive. I cannot tell from your post whether its pretty much a given and she will say yes or if there is a possibility that this could hit her on a very emotional level. And of course it is NONE of our business.

The only reason I bring it up is that if the question is going to stir a lot of emotions (maybe she will fill a little guilty regarding biological parents etc), or you are not sure about what she will answer, it could be a good idea to take her out before the trip, ask her the question, and then have a surprise dinner CELEBRATING, that she has agreed to be part of the family, once you get there. That way if you wanted you could even have a cake made up ahead or some such thing, and it will just be pure celebration.

I would choose something more intimate like Citrico's or Cali Grill. I do like the idea of the Castle but I think it will be too much going on with the characters and noise.

I have to agree with Nicki on Citricos or the California Grill.

The reason I would stay away from the character meals is because they're very interrupting which is fine when you want pictures and all... but if you're interrupted while trying to get out some very important words--it may become frustrating.

I liked the idea that Ohana means Family... but again... a very interrupting meal.
