i have a pair of wowzers (west schnauzer crosses) that came from a puppy mill that was raided. 150 adult dogs plus the pups and pregnant females
we were there 4th stop on their journey to a forever home
we were not inexperienced pet owners, these were our 5th and 6th dogs over 30 years. these 2 were the toughest. i don't think they had ever been outside or run, we got them at 5 months old. We did not crate but we did put them in a puppy playpen, thy had to be kept together. They were used to living in an area this size, they ate, slept, and pooped all in the same space. that took a while!
Puppy mill dogs, and at 6 your future dog has had a very tough life, are not regular dogs. most have never been outside for walks or play time. Be patient! Did i mention mine had to learn what stairs were?that was interesting
it is 5 years later and they are the sweetest things. Good luck with your new fur baby!
edited to add: mine came from a puppy mill in Ohio also! what the heck goes on in Ohio??
