DS & I are seriously thinking of adopting a bunny. There is a bunny rescue organization in RI. Looking for shorteared, dwarf or mini, litterbox trained, spade/neutered. Anything we should know beforehand?

oh alwaysquiet...where are you???

(that's who you want to talk to about this!) :)

Just remember that bunnies are nocturnal--they get active at night. Therefore, don't keep them in your bedroom. Also, bunnies like to chew--protect your computer and other electrical cords!

We have had several bunnies over the years and all of them were delightful. They require so little, just food and shelter and a little love to keep them happy. :daisy: Hope you enjoy your new bunny.

Do you have to take the bunny in your house or is it just a financial arrangement?

I know in Ireland, you can adopt a sheep. The sheep stays with its friends-sheep, but you support it financially, to avoid that kind of sheep from extinction.

If it's just a financial arrangement, can you PM me more details?

Bunnies flip me out. Two bad personally experiences with them, but they are cute!

When I was little I had my bunny out front, in my lap, let's just say the family cat won the battle who was getting the bunny. That bothered me for years, it was quite traumatic for a 4-5 year old.

Stayed with my sister one summer and their bunny ran loose in the house. Well, due to space, I slept on the floor. I woke up in the middle of the night with this thing right in my face, flipped me out totally.

I love looking at them at the pet store, but rarely will I hold one.

Bunnies are the sweetest pets. I just got another one a few months ago. She's wonderful. I grew an herb garden just to keep her supplied with fresh food. What a spoiled brat! :rotfl: They are very active critters. Mine keeps herself entertained by moving her house back and forth across her kennel and building tunnels in her hay. I give her empty paper towel rolls to play with too, anything to keep her busy.

My son has had rabbits but we have always kept them outside in a hutch. My experience with them is to get them while they are young. Like a lot of animals, the older ones were hard to bond with, they stayed kinda wild.

My other experience is that all they do is eat and POOP!!! They poop all the time!!!!!!! I've read you can litter train them but I personally have never known anyone that did. I'd like to hear if someone has had any luck with this.

I quess my answer may not be very helpful since ours were all outdoor bunnies.

I know you said adoption but I have a mini lop that we are trying to find a home for. I dont know if he/she is fixed because someone dropped him off in our yard ( threw him out of moving car, no he wasnt hurt, thank god) a year ago in the middle of a snow storm. "he" is friendly but is sometimes afraid to be picked up, so he panics and tries to get away. We are working on the litter box training... I am located 35 min south of Boston near plymouth, if you are interested, let me know. If he isnt what you are looking for dont worry about it because he will always have a home here, but we are going through a remodel and he cant stay in the house and he wont be happy in the barn with the horses.....

My 8.5 yearl old minni lop Nibbles past a way about a year ago. Yes they chew alot hence the name Nibbles. They are actually quite easy to litter train probably the same as litter training a cat. Rabbits have such great personalities. I had my rabbit before I got a dog and they bonded quite well. I think some times people think that rabbits are simple to care for but they do need attention and exercise. My rabbit did not have a cage and had free roam of the house while we were home. When we weren't home he stayed in his room with the gate up. Just talking about this makes me want another rabbit!

They can chew through anything in just a few seconds.

Most people don't realize that they can be very territorial and possessive of their owners. At least my oldest was. It made for some very funny times.

They are wonderful pets!!!

We have two Hotot Dwarf's. They are the most adorable bunnies I have ever seen. They are all white w/ black around the eyes. My daughter treats them like they are her own children. She even has a harness and a leash for them. :rotfl: They show her just as much affection as she shows them. They give her bunny kisses when she asks for them.

Rabbits make wonderful pets. They are relatively easy to care for. The only thing that can be a bit tricky is trimming their nails and trimming their teeth (if they get to long). They do require attention. They can become attached to one family member as well. Ours tend to favor our daughter. They get upset and don't eat well if she is away for a while. One thing you should know is that there is one thing you can NEVER feed to a bunny. If you feed them cabbage it WILL kill them. They shouldn't have iceberg lettuce either. It will give them the bunny poops.

Our bunnies are outdoors as well, so I am not sure about the litter box training. Good luck with everything.

Watch out for the killer ones!! :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1
