Hello Disigners!:)
Just wondering if I could have your feedback on the software Adobe Photoshop Elements?

There is a local community college offering classes with either this software or for almost twice the price Adobe PhotoshopCS3.

Will i get enough details or photo manipulation to do some simple graphics like you all do on this site with Elements? I want to clean up and play with my photos primarily, but would like to play with some graphics like all you magicians do:wizard: ;).

Thanks in advance!
Hugs to all

I have PSE and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I can't imagine why I would need Photoshop unless it was for professional work....and even then? There is a learning curve but classes would be an excellent start! I learn best by just jumping in and doing and there are tons and tons of free tutorials on the web.

Get it!! Adobe often offers deals on Photoshop to registered users of PSE and if you decide you want to upgrade later you can.

You will not be disappointed with all that PSE lets you do and all the free "stuff" to add to it!!

I have Photoshop CS3 and have been working with Photoshop before it had a number after it's name (it's been really long :) ) I would swear that most everyone who designs here used CS3, but they don't. With CS3, you get alot more bells and whistles, but you do need to learn what they do and even then, you may never use them. CS3 has now become the virtual darkroom for professional photographers. Even I, as a professional graphic designer, do not fully use CS3 to it's fullest potential, nor do I need to, to get the results I want. Training is always good with any new software either in class or from a book. Hope this helps you.

Actually when people have asked what DISigners use, everything imaginable has been listed. And more said PSE than Photoshop on the last survey...maybe things have changed. I still wouldn't spend the Photoshop kind of money to start out when I can do so much with Elements!!

While I am now using PS CS4 I would recommend PSE to anyone looking to do all but the most complex stuff. For $100 vs. $600 it's a good place to start. If you really get into it you can always upgrade later as Adobe does offer specials from time to time.

:thumbsup2Thank you for your feedback everyone! :grouphug:I appreciate it so very much. I was leaning towards the Elements class just due to the registration fee!
It is great to know that I can perhaps try to do some of the magic and pay it forward... if I ever make something worth sharing...:lmao:
Heartfelt thanks your opinions !!

Do the programs already have Disney clipart or do you search for them online? I used to have Photoshop years ago and I am interested in purchasing a program but I do wonder alot exactly where the disigners come up with the clipart. One more question, are the name fills available on all programs? Thanks for the info!

I would like to add to Crazydaisy question and ask how you go about disigning a name fill.

TIA,
April

I'm sure that there are multiple ways to do a name fill. They are not automatic-at least in photoshop CS3. This is how I did the nemo disigns.

1. I searched for nemo art on google and selected and saved the images I wanted to use.
2. I selected the font I wanted to use.
3. I typed out the name in Adobe Illustrator and rotated, enlarged, and overlapped the letters. You can do the same thing in Photoshop, but for me it's quicker in Illustrator.
4. In photoshop, make the letter(s) a selection.
5. Fill letter with color if needed. (I used a blue from one of the images so it would match.)
6. Make a new layer.
7. Open your nemo image in photoshop.
8. Copy nemo and paste the nemo image into the letter selected on that layer over the blue type layer.
9. Move image into position you want.
10. Use the eraser tool to delete the background around the image. Or if you are using a large image (like the fab 5) you would position it across the entire name.
11. Repeat steps 6-10 for each image.
12. Photoshop comes with "Layer styles." These are effects that you can instantly apply and remove. The effects are drop shadow, inner shadow, bevel and emboss, stroke and several others. I applied a stroke to the outside in white, then in blue and then a bevel and emboss to make it look 3-d. I also applied a drop shadow in blue.
13. Flatten and merge all layers - in this image I had at least 6 layers-one for each image and one for the blue colored lettering.

and voila you get this - Hope your not too confused.

There are several ways to do the name fills. Probably the easiest way is the way it's done in here. To add more than one piece of clip art just add it to the top of the layer stack and add it to the clipping group like you did with the first one.

i have used and am accustomed to Photoshop vs 5. .I need to purchase a new copy but can only get vs 7 or 8... i can get version 7 alot cheaper then 8. Is there a big difference. How about going from 5 to 8 is it alot different? I asked this under the scrapbook section as that is pretty much all i use photoshop for, or editing photos

PSE meaning Photoshop Elements 8 vs regular Photoshop? :thanks:
Best Buy has Adobe Photoshop Elements 8/ Adobe Premiere Elements 8 reg. $150 on sale for $99

I have PSE 6 at home and version 7 at work. To me upgrading from 6 to 7 would not be worth it. From what I've read about version 8 I see very little that would make me want to spend another $100. I've read elsewhere that most feel an upgrade every other version is worth it unless there's a particular feature in the new version you really want/need. You can always downlaod the trial version and see if it's worth it for you.
